Policy Update: Employee Training & Wellness Coordination

This course will guide you through changes made to Compass' Employee Training and Wellness Coordination policies and procedures. The policy changes were made to clarify the requirement that training occurs prior to staff working directly with individuals upon hire, annually, and as new plans are created or changes are made to plans and protocols throughout the year. The Trainer Requirements section in the Employee Training policy & procedure will be followed for all initial, annual and ongoing staff training.

Employee Training Policy

Review the following policy changes:

Annual Staff Training

All employees and representatives who provide direct support services must satisfactorily complete annual in-service training prior to working directly with individuals.


Ongoing Staff Training

All employees and representatives who provide direct support services must satisfactorily complete ongoing staff training prior to working directly with individuals. Ongoing staff training must be completed when there are:

  • Changes to an individual’s ISP
  • Changes to an individual’s risk protocols/plans
  • Changes to an individual’s BSP
  • Specific needs following injury, surgery, or other health-related issues
  • Any other changes to an individual’s plans and protocols

Timeline for Training

The Wellness Coordination provider is responsible for the training of Direct Support Professionals to ensure implementation of the Risk Plans prior to working directly with individuals.

COMPETENCY QUIZ

A person you work with has new risk protocols written by the Wellness nurse. When should training on the new risk protocols happen?

  • Prior to working with the individual.
  • Within no more than two weeks of the risk protocol being written.
  • Within 30 days of the risk protocol being written.

At minimum, how often should you receive individualized training?

  • Annually, prior to working with individuals
  • When changes are made to an individual's protocols and plans, prior to working with individuals
