Steps for Setting Up Phasing for Simple Renovation Project

Steps to Create a Phased Project


  1. Click the link above and Save the Phasing Revit file to your desktop.
  2. First we will need to create views to show existing, demolished and new elements in your project.
  3. In your Floor Plan views, right click 1ST FLOOR and Rename it 1ST FLOOR_NEW and click “No” to renaming corresponding views (unless you are renovating the ceilings as well, in which case you should Click “Yes”).
  4. Right-click the newly-named view, Duplicate View> Duplicate.
  5. Right-click and rename the copy, 1ST FLOOR_EXIST.
  6. Right-click the newly-named view, Duplicate View> Duplicate.
  7. Right-click and rename the copy, 1ST FLOOR_DEMO.
  8. Go into the 1ST FLOOR_EXIST view and select all elements and in Properties Palette change their Phase Created to “Existing”.
  9. In that same EXIST view, click outside building and in the Properties Palette for View Properties, change these Phasing parameters:
    • Phase Filter: Show All
    • Phase: Existing 
  10. Open the DEMO view and in the Properties Palette for View Properties, change these Phasing parameters:
    • Phase Filter: Show Previous + Demo
    • Phase: New Construction 
  11. Open the NEW view and in the Properties Palette for View Properties, change these Phasing parameters:
    • Phase Filter: Show Previous + New
    • Phase: New Construction 
  12. Draw Existing elements in the EXIST view and Draw New elements in the NEW view.
  13. Use the Demo tool only on existing elements in the NEW view. DEMO view is used for viewing purposes only! (No Drawing).
  14. Create a new demo sheet by right-clicking “Sheets” in the Project Browser,
  15. Select the correct title block, and click OK, then rename the new sheet “AD-101”.
  16. Finally, drag the 1ST FLOOR_DEMO view into the new demolition sheet and you’re done. Simply repeat the process for multiple floors.
