6b. Practice: Refining your own ideas

Refining your own ideas

Try it out: Refine your ideas with your design principles

  1. Pick three to five of the concepts you previously generated, and use your design principles to further refine each concept.

  2. Start with one concept, and spend a few minutes brainstorming ways that the concept could address each of your design principles individually. Then look for ways that the concept might address all of the design principles at once. Sketch any new ideas you come up with.

  3. Repeat step 2 for each of your remaining 3-5 concepts.

Share and reflect

Share an example “before” and “after” concept with your learning group, and describe how the concept changed or evolved during this refinement exercise.
