How to learn more about ParaTExt.

The Help system

Browse Help

ParaTExt has a number of help pages within it that describe how different things work in the program. There are help topics in most of the interface languages, although there are more of them in English.

To browse the Help topics in Paratext, go to the Help menu and choose Browse help

This brings up a topic list page. The blue items represent links to other pages you can call up  by clicking on them.

Help on Project Interlinearizer question

  • The project interlinearizer requires two texts, a target text and a model text
  • The interlinearizer generates statistical guesses of glosses for the target text
  • You must mark phrases in your target text before using the project interlinearizer
  • words can be broken up into morphemes
Imagine you want to learn more about the Project Interlinearizer.
Open ParaTExt, go to Browse Help, then open the Introduction to the Project Interlinearizer. Read that text and then indicate which of these statements are true.

Search Help

You can search for help on a particular topic by typing the word in the Help search bar. The Help Search bar is at the top of the browse help screen.

When you type a word, Paratext will bring up a list of matching topics you can select. Here is a search for "footnote" in the help system.

Tip: Bring up the help topics and help search from anywhere by pressing F1 on the keyboard. You can also do a help search without bringing up the browse help first, by typing in the search help text box at the top right of the Paratext window.

Many Paratext dialogs will show help text in a panel to the right. This special help text is called the guide.

The guide shows explanations for each part of the dialog it sits beside.

Hiding and Unhiding the Guide

If you do not want the guide to appear beside a dialog box, click the X at the top right of the guide panel to make it go away.

ParaTExt will remember this and not bring up the guide for that dialog box when you bring it up again.

To bring the guide back after you have closed it, click the Show guide link at the bottom right of the dialog box.

Many dialog boxes have a More help link at the lower left. This brings up a list of help topics relating to that dialog.

Learn how to rename a project

ParaTExt help does explain how a project can be renamed. In help, search for "rename" and read the How do I rename a project topic. Then answer these questions.

In ParaTExt, a project can be renamed by
