The FATF, its Mandate and Work

The FATF is an inter-governmental body that establishes international standards for combating ML, TF and PF.

The FATF:

• develops and refines the international AML/CFT standards (The FATF Recommendations).
• assesses and monitors compliance with the FATF Recommendations.
• monitors countries with strategic AML/CFT deficiencies.
• identifies and analyses threats to the integrity of the financial system, including the methods and trends involved.
• ensures clear understanding of the FATF Recommendations and processes.

The FATF Members, Observers, Associate Members (i.e., The FATF-Style Regional Bodies) and Observer Organisations span the FATF Global Network.

The Plenary is the FATF’s decision-making body and takes place in October, February and June of each year. It is chaired by the FATF President.
