Mental Health Days

Hi there! Welcome to Healthy Nurses 101

This E-learn experience is put into place to help you become the best nurse you can be. Nursing involves more that just serving your patients. It involves knowing your body and maintaining optimal health. Sometimes we forget about about ourselves with the daily stresses of the job. However, it's important that our mental stability is in tact. This month we will focus on Mental Health. Some days we just need a day of resting our brain!

Good luck with the course!

Mental Health

What Is Mental Health?

In Short:

mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.

Our Mental Health Only Effects The Way We Think?

  • Yes!
  • No! It affects everything!

Whats a mental health day?

A mental health day is a day off solely dedicated to giving your psychological and emotional health some TLC, to break away from the draining stress of everyday life—stress which, over time, could lead to major health problems if not properly dealt with.

Mental health rarely gets the same respect. Instead, people are told to “get over it” when they’re struggling with anxiety, depression, or similar issues. But mental health is part of your overall health. If you don’t proactively address it, you won’t be able to perform at your best.

Signs that its time for a mental health day

  • you're exhausted and can't sleep
  • anxiousness
  • lack of focus
  • sadness
  • easily angered
  • keep getting sick

Which are signs of a needed mental break?

  • easily angered
  • aggravation
  • sleepiness
  • anxiousness
  • all of the above

How to make the most of your mental health day

DO WHAT YOU LOVE TO DO!!

Its that simple. Take the day or a few hours even to do something you love. Turn off the work and do what you love to do! Go for a run. Explore your neighborhood. Catch up on your favorite tv shows. Clean. Cook.

Are you in need a break?

It's okay to say that you need a break. It's okay!

Truth is, we can all benefit from a day to clear the fog from our heads: Taking a mental-health day can improve energy, motivation, mood, and one’s ability to manage stress, and time off might actually increase overall productivity rather than decrease it.
