This will guide you in beginning, submitting & uploading a transcription task. To begin transcribing, you need to log in to get to the Home Page that lets you begin a New Task.

The Information Bar - Passing Rate

1st Month passing rate and valid markings

For the 1st month, the marker has to at least reach a passing rate of  and finish at least  valid markings a day.

NUMBER OF CHECK(S)

After the marker finishes uploading the package, the checker will start checking the results. "Number of Check(s)" indicates the times checkers re-checked markings. The maximum re-check done by checker is 3; which means the marker can correct and upload up to two times

FAILS

If any package fails, markers have to correct the wrong markings and upload again.

INVALID 

If markers fail to correct the markings more than 3 times, the package will be deemed unusable and marked as "Invalid ". 

When a package is deemed unusable and marked as invalid

If the number of checks exceeds  the package will be deemed unusable and marked as invalid.

Multiple sections

A multiple section is when there is  person talking in the recording and/or between each section there is a gap bigger than  

Faithfully transcribing EVERYTHING in the recording

The marker has to transcribe faithfully even if the speaker is not speaking properly or speaking with grammatical errors

Match

  • If the speaker spells out a word...
    the marker has to transcribe letter by letter.
  • If the recording is partly English...
    transcribe the English part.
  • If entire recording is in a language other than English...
    the recording is marked as invalid.

    the marker should exert all effort to transcribe the sounds

7. Numbers/Abbreviations/Punctuation Marks

  (a) Numbers have to be transcribed as words, instead of their  numeral forms.

  (b) Abbreviations have to be transcribed in all capital letters.

  (c) Punctuation marks do not need to be transcribed.

  (ex. "How are you?" as "How are you question mark")


8. When encountering non-spoken language/not a recording:

 -If the recording is only a recording of music or recording of people singing, the recording is invalid. 

-If there are multiple speakers talking at the same time in the same recording, the recording is invalid.

  • Numbers have to be transcribed as words.
  • Abbreviations have to be transcribed in all lower case letters.
  • If the recording is only a recording of music or of people singing, the recording is valid.

If the background noise of the recording is too loud, mark as Too Noisy. A recording marked as Too Noisy is invalid.

If it’s not American or British accent (meaning non-native speaker), mark as "With" in "Accent" (Please see above image)

1. Check the selection of sound wave.

2. Check the content & categories.

3. Click on the upload button.



4. After clicking the upload button, a screen prompt will ask you if you are sure you want to submit. Click "Confirm."

5. To check if a task has been submitted successfully, the "Status Column" should show "Not Check"

Grading

Passing

• If any package fails, the marker will have to go back to that package and correct the wrong markings.

• If the marker fails to correct the markings for more than three times, the whole package will become invalid.


• The marker has to faithfully transcribe the recording, including grammatical mistakes made by the speaker. 

• The marker needs to record the details of the recording (noise, language, gender, accent, and volume). Any mistakes will be counted as a failed marking. 

• The marker’s daily and monthly output and passing rates will be reviewed.

The Checked Package

Some recordings will be marked green or red after the package has been checked.

Green = passed

Red = needs to be corrected 

Correction

1. Click on the red recordings. 

2. Follow the instruction the checker left in the “Remark’ column. 

3. Correct and resubmit. (see below)

Resubmit

1. If the marker was able to resubmit successfully, the red mark will become yellow.

2. After correcting, the marker may re-upload the whole package again.

3. Please note that the marker can only re-upload the package twice.

4. If the marker fails to correct the markings more than three times, the whole package  will become invalid.


Green & Red Marks, Corrections & Resubmissions

  • A green mark means
    the recording passed.
  • A red mark means
    the recording needs to be corrected
  • Begin the Correction process by
    clicking on a red recording
  • Follow the instruction the checker left
    in the Remark column
  • A recording that has been successfully resubmitted
    will go from red to yellow
  • After correcting, the marker may
    re-upload the whole package
  • The marker can only re-upload
    twice
  • If the marker fails to correct the markings more than 3 times
    the whole package will become invalid
