2016-17 NBA Season

2016-17 NBA Season Preview

The Favorites

Western Conference Favorites

After giving up an improbable 3-1 series lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors looked make aggressive offseason moves. They accomplished this by adding former NBA MVP Kevin Durant to their Roster. This addition garnered them the label of a true "super-team" and propelled them into the favorite role for the upcoming season, albeit a marginal one.

Perennial Contenders the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers also returned the bulk of their rosters and added key rotational additions to bolster their prospects for contention. Even with such additions, the Spurs and Clippers are still very much on the outside looking it.

Other dark horse teams with title aspirations include the James Harden lead Rockets, the Russell Westbrook lead Thunder, and Damien Lillard lead Blazers.

Eastern Conference Favorites

The clear heavy favorites to come out of the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers are favored by many to repeat after their improbably trouncing of the Golden State Warriors. When taking account of th entirety of analysts and commentators, they are mild underdogs for the title.

Teams aspiring to rise out of the east is limited to three teams: the Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, and Toronto Raptors. No one gives them any serious consideration to win the East and move on to the NBA Finals. A tweeked ankle, a hamstring strain on Cleveland's part, and these teams will be eager to trounce on Cleveland's misfortune.

A season preview by ESPN commentators, Jeff Goldblum, and Mike Wilbon.

MVP Contenders

Lebron James

James has been the best player in the NBA bar none for the last decade. Having one four MVP's the primary limitation to him adding a fifth is voter fatigue. Expect another MVP caliber season from him.

Russell Westbrook

Now that Durant has moved on to the Warriors, there is no doubt who's team this is. Look for Westbrook to take advantage and assert himself as an MVP favorite.

Kwahi Leonard

Know as the best two way player in the NBA, Leonard will have to continue to refine his offensive skill set to truely be considered for this regular season award.

James Harden

After finished second in MVP voting, and being named the player's MVP two season ago, Harden significantly regressed this past season. Look for him to revert back to his form of two years ago.

Kevin Durant

Now that Durant has moved onto the star studded warriors he is likely to win his first championship. The best player on the best team in the league is always a likely choice for the award. The only question is who will emerge as that player, Durant or Curry?

Steph Curry

Having won the last two MVP awards the question now is will his numbers suffer enough to where he becomes an afterthought in the MVP conversation. He is not the favorite but his name will certainly be in the mix if the Warriors continue steamrolling opponents.
