Setting Up A New GenTech Device

New Device Setup

New Customers

Step one: Create a new account. Or rather, send them a Signup Link that will automatically do that for you. https://tagcrm.rndsoftwaregroup.com/tagcrm/#/signup

Once the form is filled in, the account is automatically created and the user will receive a confirmation email with their Username and Password.

A successful install can be done with just the Username and Password. Any other CRM adjustments can be done later on.

How do you create a new GenTech account?

  • Email support.
  • Send them a signup link.
  • Click the add new account button under settings.

Existing Customers

Existing GenTech Customers

Existing customers with a new device already have and don't need another new GenTech account.

Find Their Account

Simply find their existing account by using the search bar under the Customers Tab. https://tagcrm.rndsoftwaregroup.com/tagcrm/#/customers


Add New Device

Inside their account, click the appropriate Add New Device Button. This will generate a New Device in the system with new Credentials.


Settings Tab

The New Device is now created. The Username and Password are under the Settings Tab.

Note: be sure to press the green Save and Config button at the bottom at least once before using them in the device. This will create the new account on the GenTech server.

Why press Save & Config when creating a new device?

  • To send the account to the new device.
  • To create the new account on the GenTech server.

Time to Proceed...

Time to Proceed...

Once the account is created and you have the Username and Password... Time to install the filter app onto the device.

Installing MDM for Samsung

Downloading MDM onto the Device

Download MDM

Download the MDM apk onto the device.

The Download is available here:

Signup Email

The signup confirmation email contains a link to the latest MDM apk.

Simply have them click this link to initiate the download.

Open the internet browser on the device and go to: https://gentechsolution.com/dl and download the latest MDM apk.

Unknown Sources

Install the APK

Once downloaded, install the APK. You should find it in the notification bar by swiping down from the top of the screen. You'll find it as well in the Downloads folder or File Manager.

Install Blocked

By default, android is set to block the installation of apps not obtained from the app store.

Simply click on Settings, and set Unknown Sources to Allow.

The device may re-prompt you to install the file.

If it doesn't prompt you again, find the MDM apk in the file manager and install it from there.

What's the step after allowing unknown sources?

  • Download the MDM apk again.
  • Press Save & Config in the CRM.
  • Find the MDM apk in the file manager.

Installation Process

Select a Location

Once the installation is complete, open the MDM app and choose your Location.

GenTech Privacy Notice

You'll be prompted to accept the GenTech privacy notice.

Tap I Agree to proceed with the installation.

Device Administrator

GenTech MDM requires Device Administrator Permissions.

Tap Activate to Allow GenTech MDM to be the Device Admin.

Samsung Permissions

The next prompt is for Samsung Permissions.

Add a checkmark to the box and Tap Confirm.

Note: The device must has a active internet connection in order for this step to work.

If you get a License activation failed error, try a different internet connection.


Success

If the installation was successful, you'll be forwarded to the GenTech MDM main screen.

What happens if the setup was successful?

  • The filter is finished getting installed.
  • You'll be forwarded to the Filter's main screen.

Setting Credentials

Get the credentials from the signup confirmation email and enter them in the provided fields.

Set Credentials

Now tap the Set Credentials button.

The filter will automatically check if the credentials are correct, set the device to that account, and apply all the current filtering setting for that account.

MDM Installation is now complete!

Other than a username and password, what do you need to know for a successful installation?

  • You need to know how to Whitelist websites.
  • Nothing else.
  • You need to know how to bypass apps.
  • You need to know how to configure IP addresses.

Download Livigent Lite onto the device.

The download is available here:

Signup Email

The Signup confirmation email contains a link to the latest Livigent Lite apk.

Click this link to initiate the download.

Unknown Sources

Install the  APK

Once downloaded, install the APK. You should find it in the notification bar by swiping down from the top of the screen. You'll find it as well in the Downloads folder or File Manager.

Install Blocked

By default, the android system is set to block the installation of apps not obtained from the google playstore.

Simply click on Settings and set Unknown Sources to Allow.

The device may reprompt you to install the app. If it doesn't you can find it in the Downloads folder or File Manager and install it from there.

Where's the setting on Android to allow Unknown Sources?

  • In accessibility.
  • In developer options
  • In Security
  • In More Networks.

Installation Process

Provider Code

Once the installation is done, open the Livigent Lite app and enter your Provider Code.

Provider Codes:

US: TAG

UK: TAGUK

Livigent Privacy Notice

You'll be prompted to accept the Livigent Privacy Notice.

Tap I Agree to proceed with the installation.

Activate Device Administrator

Livigent Lite requires Device Administrator permissions.

Tap Activate to set Livigent Lite as a Device Administrator.

Screen Lock

Livigent Lite requires a Screen Lock to be set during installation. This can be removed later from inside the Livigent Lite app menu.

Note: This will override the current screen lock settings.

Certificate

Tap OK to install the Livigent Certificate.

What do you do when you get the credential storage password error?

  • Enter the filtering password from the CRM.
  • Enter the Screen Lock PIN.
  • Watch the video showing how to bypass it.
  • Enter 0000

Permissions

Apps Usage  Permission

On some devices, Livigent Lite requires Apps Usage Permission.

Locate Livigent Lite in the list, turn it ON, then return to the Livigent Lite app to continue the installation.

Accessibility

Livigent Lite requires Accessibility permission on all devices.

Locate Livigent Lite in the list, turn it ON, then return to the Livigent Lite app to continue the installation.


Draw Over Apps Permission

On some devices, Livigent Lite requires Draw Over Apps Permission.

Locate Livigent Lite in the list, turn it ON, then return to the Livigent Lite app to continue the installation.


Which permission is required always on every device?

  • Apps usage permission
  • Accessibility permission
  • Draw over apps permission

Setting Credentials

Livigent Lite is now fully installed!

Choose all the steps to completing the installation. (Select all that apply)

  • Press send apps list
  • Remove the Lock Screen PIN
  • Enter the Filtering Password
  • Do Save & Config in the CRM
  • Press Set Credentials
  • Enter the Filtering Username

Checking the System Type

Checking the Computer's System Type

There are two GenTech installers for Windows  - depending if the computer has a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

Here's how to check:

File Explorer

Open the file explorer and right-click on This PC.

Choose Properties from the list to open the system properties screen.

Check under System Type if the computer is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Why do you need to check the system type?

  • In order to enter it in the CRM.
  • In order to use the correct installer for that system.

Download the proper Windows Installer file onto the Computer.

The Installation

Once the installer downloads - run the file.

Follow the prompts to begin the installation.

Closing the Browsers

The installer checks for any open browsers and prompts you to close them. Follow the prompts to begin the installation.

One-Click Install

The installer will now install the filter by simply clicking the install button. No other steps are necessary to complete the basic installation.

After closing the browsers and clicking Install. what else is necessary?

  • Put the computer in airplane mode.
  • Nothing, the installation is done with once click.
  • Press Save & Config in the CRM.

After installation, you'll need to set credentials.

Opening the Filter Portal

The Livigent icon will appear in the notification center at the bottom right of the screen.

Right-click it and choose Show. Alternatively, press CTRL - SHIFT - L or ALT - SHIFT -L on your keyboard.

Credentials

In the Profile tab, enter the Username and Password from the signup confirmation email or from the user's account in the CRM. Then click Apply.

Note: If you're getting errors at this step, ensure that the window at the bottom says: Status: OK!

A restart may be needed.


Policy Refresh

In the System tab, click Policy Refresh. This will download the new settings from the GenTech Servers.

GenTech for Windows is now fully installed!

What's the solution if the credentials are not applying?

  • Uninstall and reinstall the filter.
  • Try restarting the computer
  • Do Save and Config in the CRM.

There are two GenTech for Windows installers - depending if the computer is a 32-bit or 64-bit system.

Here's how to check:

Create a Password

Create a custom password for the user.

This password will enable the user to toggle the allowed exceptions ALLOW and BLOCK.

Important: This password will NOT allow them to override the block. It will only open the allowed exceptions.

Delete System Restore Points

To prevent users from restoring their computers to a previous unfiltered state, the installer prompts you to delete all system restore points.

Adding Exceptions

In addition to the pre-made exceptions, you can add exceptions for any other application as well.

To add a single application, use this syntax:

.*processname\.exe

To add multiple application:

(.*processname1\.exe)|(.*processname2\.exe)|(.*processname3\.exe)

What can users do with the Password created during installation?

  • Uninstall the block.
  • Add more exceptions.
  • Control the exceptions to be allowed or blocked.

Finding the Process Name

How To Find The Process-Names

In order for this to work, you need to find the exact name of the application's .exe file.

First: Run the application.

Task Manager

Open Task Manager and select the application that will be bypassed.

Then right-click and choose Go To Process.

Windows 10: Choose Go To Details. You may need to press show details at the bottom of this window in order to see that option.

Processes/Detail Tab

The correct process to bypass will be highlighted.

Copy that name exactly and enter it using the previously mentioned syntax.

Note: If there is a space in the process name, try adding a * in the name in place of the space.

How do you add process names that have a space in the name?

  • add it as one word
  • put an underscore (_) instead of the space
  • add a star (*) instead of the space
  • add the exception with the space

Blocking Everything

Blocking Everything

Important: Selecting this option will block EVERYTHING, with NO exceptions.

Choose this only if that is what you're trying want to do.

If someone wants everything blocked besides Skype, should you check the block all connections box?

  • Yes, because he wants to block everything else
  • No

The Livigent icon will show up in the notification bar.

Right-click and choose SHOW.

Alternatively, press CTRL - SHIFT - L or ALT - SHIFT - L on your keyboard to access the filter panel.

Controlling the Exceptions

The filter allows you to control the exceptions using the custom password that you created during installation.

Enter the password and press Activate to block all traffic.

Enter the password and press Deactivate to allow the applications that were entered during the installation.

Installing GenTech for iOS

GenTech for iOS requires a windows computer. Unlike GenTech for the other platforms, the device must be actually plugged into a computer for this installation.

Find my iPhone

Find my iPhone needs to be OFF for this installation.

iCloud Settings

On the device go to: Settings > iCloud > Find my iPhone/iPad and turn it OFF.

You may re-enable it once the installation is complete.

Trust

A verification message will appear on the device's screen. Be sure to tap Trust.

Getting the Installer Ready

The installer will automatically detect the device once it's plugged in.

You'll know it's ready when the Device Name and Type appear at the top, and the status changed from Detecting to Connected.

Enter the filtering Username into the provided Username field.

Choose your Location from the Server drop-down list.

The filter gives the option to include Apple's built-in configurator restrictions.

By default, the necessary ones for a secure filter were already put in place. Modify the settings here as necessary case-by-case.

Important:

These settings cannot be changed once the filter is installed.

In event that changes are needed, the profiles will need to be deleted from the device and a re-installation will be needed with the necessary changes made.

Please review these carefully before proceeding, or leave them with the defaults.

Which restrictions should you select for a safe and secure filter?

  • Restrict iTunes.
  • Set Movies and TV shows to none
  • Restrict spotlight suggestions
  • The basics for a safe and secure filter were are selected by default.

Blacklisted Apps

Blacklisted Apps 

GenTech gives the option to blacklist apps. This will remove them from the device and prevent them from getting downloaded from the app store.

Simply add a checkmark near the app you wish to blacklist.

Note: If you choose to restrict the YouTube app, be sure to first delete it. If you restrict it when it's on the phone, no YouTube will play at all, even in the browser. The browser will try to forward all the YouTube clips to play in the app... and the app won't be there due to the restriction. Rather, delete the YouTube app first, then restrict it - this will allow it to play in the browser - if needed.

Adding More Apps

You may add any app to the blacklist. Press the button with the plus-sign and add it to the list.

Removing Apps

Select the app you want to remove and press the button with the minus-sign.

Harmful Apps

Harmful apps, designed to bypass filters are blacklisted here by default.
