This course will teach you about the basic nutrients.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are energy-providing nutrients. The body receives 4 calories per 1 gram of carbohydrates consumed. Carbohydrates are separated into simple carbohydrates (sugar), complex carbohydrates (fiber) and starch.

Proteins

Proteins are made by  amino acids.  Each gram of protein contains 4 calories. Sources of protein include meats (hamburger, fish, chicken), dairy products (cheese, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese), eggs.

Proteins have many different jobs within the body. They are used for gene growth & repair. and to  also carry signals from one part of the body to another and to form structures, including muscles.

Proteins contain the same amount of calories as carbohydrates.
