Girls with Grit & Grace (G3) Summer Academy

Welcome to the G3 Virtual Summer Academy! Over the next 5-weeks you will participate in a unique experience that will connect you with other girls who are interested in science, math, technology and engineering. Each week you will complete a STEM challenges that will help you connect with resources in your community and give you an opportunity to digitally capture and share your experiences.

Astronaut Kay Hire

NASA Women's History Month

NASA participated in an education-related Women’s History Month celebration, March 28 at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, in Washington, DC. The program, featured appearances and presentations by NASA Astronaut Kay Hire, several NASA engineers and scientists, Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, and Ivanka Trump, from the White House. There were also activities geared toward getting students excited about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and a screening of the film, “Hidden Figures”.

Visit the NASA Education website event calendar and choose an activity to participate in during the month of June. Post a brief answer to the following questions.

Week Two: Technology

Visit the following websites to learn about what students your age are doing with coding for example visit Khan Academ and Girls Who Code

This week you will learn about national technology movements and connect with girls just like you who are participating in enriching summer experiences. For example, Girls Who Code is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization which supports increasing women in computer science. Your challenge this week is to connect with a middle school student using social media and ask them about what they are doing now to feed their passion for STEM.

Visit the website Makezine  and subscribe to their magazine. Choose any project featured on the Makezine as inspiration and sketch a design to  improve it, or come up with an original design of your own.
