As a result, students will develop the habit of referring to the Bible and will learn that God is the only way.

Come on! Lest go and walk in the footstep of God.

  • Know that God created me and cares for me.
  • Be able to identify the Old Testament and the books in it.

Keep it!!!

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. Micah 7:18 (KJV)

GOD'S WORD

The "Bible" comes from an old word that means "books", it was written by different authors who lived in a different generation long ago and from different places. All of the writers were told by God to write down what He wanted the Bible to say.

The Bible tells the whole story of Gods plan of salvation for all people through His son Jesus. The Bible is divided into two parts: The Old Testament is made up of 39 books. These books are divided into five groups. The Old Testament tells the story of how God made people and cared for, protected, and blessed them even though people choose to disobey Him over and over again

Books of Law

The Old Testament begins with the Law group also called Pentateuch (which means "five books"), that tells how God created the world and the people who live in it and how He chose the Israelites to be the people that Jesus, His Son, would come from many, many years later. God gave the Israelites rules called the Ten Commandments that told them how to live in a way that pleases Him. These five books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers,  and Deuteronomy.

Books of History

The next twelve books in the Old Testament is called the History group because it tells the story of how the Israelites become plenty and had God messengers called prophets, and kings like Saul, David, and Solomon to lead them. Thes books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.

Book of Poetry

They are followed by the five POETRY books made up by Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs. These are songs, poems, and proverbs that praise God because of how good and powerful nad loving He is.

Books of Major Prophets

Then the five books of the Major Prophets comes next. Written by Gods prophets, these books are warnings to the Israelites of the punishments they would suffer because they refused to listen to God. The books are also words of comfort to them when they were captured and brought to other countries as slaves. God says He would one day forgive them and bring them back to their nation. This group is made up of the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

Books of Minor Prophets

The last group in the Old Testament is the twelve books of the Minor Prophets.  These books were also written by Gods prophets, but are much shorter in length. They also serve as a warning and sources of comfort for the Israelites as well as tell of things that will happen in the future. This group are made up of  Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

Message of the Books

Even though these books were written long ago about the Israelites, they are also about us and our lives today! The Bible's message is true in the past, today, and for all time. Just as God created the first people, God created us and protects and cares for and loves us even though we chose to disobey Him at times

Prayer:

The Old Testament is the story of how God created people to love him and be His obedient children. But people chose to disobey God and make Him sad. But even though people hurt God, He still made a plan to save them from the wrong things they did

Write a prayer to thank God for creating you, because He never stopped loving you even though you have disobeyed Him again and again.

Key Verse:  1 John 4: 9-10

GOD'S WORD FOR MY WORLD

The New Testament is made up of 27  books. These books are divided into six groups. The New Testament tells the story of Jesus' life here on earth, how He died and rose again to save everyone and how His disciple s formed the Church, a group of people who believe in Jesus as their Savior and tell others about Jesus while they wait for Him to return.

Book of the Gospels

The first four books of the New Testament are called the Gospels, which means "good news". The Gospels were written by four different men who were Jesus' disciples (for followers) and wrote about Jesus'  in different ways. But all four books still had the same message. In the Gospel, you read that Jesus came to earth as a baby just like all of you, but He was still God at the same time. He lived a perfect life, and always obeyed God, His Father. Because He wanted to please God and save everyone, even those that hated Him, He died a very horrible and painful death on the cross. But God made Him live again after three days!. Jesus died and lived again to save everyone who would accept His salvation. He went back to heaven but sent the Holy Spirit to His disciples to help them. The Gospels are the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Books of History

The next group in the New Testament is also called History, because the only book in it, Acts, tells the story of how Jesus' disciples became many and formed the Chruch.

Books of Letter of Paul to the Churches

The books that form the Letter of Paul to the Churches follow. One of Jesus' followers was a man called Paul who went to different churches in Europe and Asia to teach them about the things that Jesus had said, done and taught while He was on earth. Each of the books is named after the people in each church that Paul wrote to. These books are Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, and 2 Thessalonians

Books of Letter of Paul to His Friends

The next group in the four books that form the Letter of Paul to His Friends,  letters that encourage and teach people that Paul had worked with in telling others about Jesus.   These books are 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.

General Letter

The second to the last group is called General Letter, which were letters written by the disciples James, Peter,  John, and Jude to also instruct and encourage the churches. These books are Hebrew, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John and Jude.

Prophecy

The last in the New Testament is the Prophecy group. The only books in these group, REVELATION, tells the things that will happen before, during, and after Jesus' return to earth. It tells that a lot strange and bad things will happen before Jesus' comes because of the evil things that people have done, but that Jesus' will take His followers to heaven before the worst of these happens. when Jesus comes back, He will defeat Satan and all evil once and for all, He will make everything new and good again new and good again that will last forever.

Prayer..

Jesus,

I know that I have done many things that were wrong and did not please you. I am very sorry for all the wrong things I have done. I know that You died and lived again to save me. I accept you as my Savior. Please forgive me and take my sins away. Be in charge of my life from now on. I want to do only things that make you happy every day. I Love You, Jesus.

In Your name, I pray, Amen

How prayer help me... (cont.)

  • God knows what we need and what is best for us.

God is so wise that He knows what we need if before we can say anything to Him. But He likes to hear us talk to Him, so He tells us to always make time for HIm. God is also wise; that He knows what is best for us and when to give an answer to our prayer. So, when we pray and Gods answer in different ways than we thought, then what we need may not be

How do we Pray: Luke 18: 9-10

The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector

In Luke 18, Jesus told about two men who both prayed to God, and how they were each received by the Father.

This parable is a good way to measure our hearts as we come to God in prayer. Ask yourself, am I the Pharisee or a tax collector? It’s kind of hard to determine who the good guy is in this scenario before Jesus explains God’s point of view. Prior to Jesus’ admonitions against the religiosity perpetuated by the Pharisees, they were the respected church leaders. They were the holy men of that day. The tax collectors were hated by most. Right off the bat, one would assume that Jesus would denounce the later, as the “sinner”.

How the Pharisee Pray

“The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed this prayer: ‘I thank you, God, that I am not a sinner like everyone else. For I don’t cheat, I don’t sin, and I don’t commit adultery. I’m certainly not like that tax collector! I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my income.’

How the Tax Collector Pray

“But the tax collector stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.’

Values

When we pray, we trust and believe God will hear and answer our prayer. God wants to hear sincerity in our prayer. God is concerned with the heart of a person. So next time you go to God in prayer, ask yourself, am I humble or proud? Either way, it’s a chance to get right with Him.

Keep Thinking..

After learning everything from creation to Books of the Bible to learning how to get closer to God, I asked myself?

What things do I need? What problems do I have or things I need help with?

How much time did I use to talk to God by praying before this lesson?

Share about a time that God showed me that He was powerful by answering my prayer.
