This orientation module has been designed to give you an overview of the pharmacy and store. There will be quick check questions throughout the module, but this is not a graded module.

Staff Pharmacists

Peter Koch, Pharmacy Manager

Peter has been the Pharmacy Manager for 4 1/2 years now. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 2007 and has been with Jewel-Osco for over 10 years. Prior to working as Pharmacist he was a Pharmacy Technician. Peter lives in Bartlett with his wife, Hazel, two boys (Xander and Hudson), and their golden retriever, Daisy. He enjoys being outdoors and his favorite holiday is Halloween.

Sue Johnson, Staff Pharmacist

Sue is the only staff Pharmacist at the store and she joined the team 2 years ago. Prior to working at Algonquin store, she worked at the West Dundee store. Sue has been a Pharmacist for over 20 years. She lives in West Dundee with her 2 cats and has a son, Andrew, who is an engineer. When she's not working she enjoys gardening, going for long walks, or catching a movie with friends. Her favorite time of year is Spring.

Pharmacy Technicians

Alisa McCloud

Alisa has been a Pharmacy Technician at Jewel-Osco for over 10 years. Prior to working at Jewel-Osco, she worked at Walgreens. Alisa is the only technician certified and the you want to go to with any questions! When she's not working she enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.

Trisha Bond

Trisha has been with Jewel-Osco for 10 months. Prior to working at the pharmacy, she worked at a children's daycare in Oswego. Trisha lives in Algonquin with her husband, Dan, and their daughter, Makayla. When she's not working she enjoys spending time with her family and reading.

*Interesting fact: Trisha can do the splits!*

Erica Monroy

Erica has been with Jewel-Osco for 8 months. Prior to working at the pharmacy, she worked at the YMCA in Crystal Lake. She is currently a student at Mchenry County College, but has plans to go to pharmacy school in the next 2 years. When she's not working or at school, she is most likely hanging out with friends or going clubbing!

*Interesting fact: Erica has 6 siblings!*

Daniyal Habib

Daniyal is the newest technician to join the team, he has been with Jewel-Osco for 6 months. Prior to working at the pharmacy, he worked at Subway. Daniyal is also attending Mchenry County College and plans to go to pharmacy school next year. When he's not busy with work or school, he likes to hang out with his friends and play basketball.

*Interesting fact: Daniyal can recite all 50 states in a song!*

General Information

The Store

Located at 1501 E. Algonquin Rd., Algonquin, IL 60102. Store number is 3310.

Hours are Sun-Sat 6 am to Midnight

Staff to Know

Below you will see a list of people to know at the store. While you may not interact with the individuals on a daily basis, you may have to call them over the intercom every once in a while.

Store Manager

Jodi Gallagher is the store manager. 

Assistant Manager

Lori Ackerman is the assistant manager. 

Day Shift Leads

The day shift hours are 6 am to 3 pm. 

Tom Mills, Angie Winters, Denise Galvez, Lisa Fullerton, and Marcie Hyland.

Evening Shift Leads

The evening shift hours are 3pm to midnight.

Lisa Rybicki, Marc Marchini, and Jackson Wolfsberger.

Other Important Information

Bathroom Location

The bathroom is located  at the back of the store, left hand side corner by the frozen food. (You will get asked this by customers, usually on a daily basis.) Pharmacy employees have a bathroom to use in the pharmacy.

Break room Location

The break room is located above the public bathroom. You will need to use access code: 3310 to get in to the break room area. The break room has 2 refrigerators for employee use, as well as vending machines.

Becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Important Information

Your pharmacy technician license will expire annually on March 31, regardless of when it is issued. By the second renewal, you will be required to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Please note, you do not have to wait until it becomes required. If you would like to do it before the second renewal, let the Pharmacy Manager know you are ready.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent educational diploma (e.g., a GED or foreign diploma)*.
  • Full disclosure of all criminal and State Board of Pharmacy registration or licensure actions.

Study for the Exam

  • You will need to complete a 90 question, multiple choice exam within two hours.

Schedule the Exam

  • First, you will need to submit an application here:

  • Once your application is approved, you will receive notification and become authorized to take the exam. You will schedule your exam here:

  • You will need to complete the exam within 90 days of authorization.

Other things you should know:

  • The cost to take the exam is $129, which you will pay upfront but Jewel-Osco will reimburse you after you have submitted proof of payment.
  • Upon receiving confirmation that you have passed the exam, you will submit proof to receive a pay increase of $0.75/per hour.

First Aid and CPR Training

Important Information

First Aid

There is a first aid kit in the pharmacy, it is located near the bathroom. The kit includes the basics only, such as band aids, medical tape, gauze, and alcohol wipes. 

CPR Training

While you are not required to become CPR Certified, Jewel-Osco will reimburse you if you decide to do this.
