Ascension Investigator Training

For ages the truth of the paranormal has been sought after. The research of Psychic phenomena is serious. Proof of the existence of ghosts and other psychic phenomena could change the way we look at quantum physics and even death.

It is in fact revolutionary research. The world, as we know it, is a complex place that still needs to be explored. This group isn't just about ghosts. It's about all of the anomalies and phenomenon of our world, the things that science can't explain.

There are two types of people who claim to be in the paranormal field of research; The Ghost Hunter and the Paranormal Investigator. The ghost hunter is the one who are the weekend warriors who go to old buildings (often trespassing) and graveyards just to scare themselves and get a thrill. However, the paranormal investigator/researchers are those who dedicate their own time, money and their lives in some cases to help further the paranormal field by taking on clients to assist them in their experiences with paranormal phenomena and to collect evidence as well as test theories.

Paranormal investigation can be dangerous and with this training you will be able to investigate with an ease-of-mind knowing that you can efficiently conduct your research without putting anyone at risk of danger.

Module 1:

Organization Essentials

1.1         Introduction

PRISM Paranormal Research (from here on shall be referred to as PRISM) is an organization in NorthWest Tennessee based in Martin, TN whose mission is to research paranormal phenomena through paranormal investigation, provide education regarding para normal phenomena and to assist clients who are experiencing paranormal phenomena. While every organization has their own way of investigating there are several universal theories and methods. This manual will assist you in your research and investigations. All of this training is based on years of our own primary research as well as modeled from research of the world’s top paranormal researchers.

1.2         Organization Background

The Paranormal Research & Investigation Society of Martin was founded in the fall of 2006 by Casey McCasland and Kristen Moore. The organization was originally called the UT Martin Paranormal Society which began as an organization for students who were interested in topics such as ghosts and spirits.

The group had no formal meetings nor did they have any formal organization. In the fall of 2008 the organization began to transition from a group of students interested in ghost hunting to a larger more organized group which began to take on clients and investigate the homes and businesses in the local area.

In 2009 the group become known as the Paranormal Research & Investigation Society of Martin and began petitioning the University of Tennessee at Martin to become an official student organization. While doing this the organization reached out to some of the most well-known experts in the Parapsychology field and gained sponsorships from Dr. Charles Tart, Dr. Linda Salvin and on the UT Martin campus gained the sponsorship of Mr. Tommy McGlown and Professor of Sociology and Anthropology Darwin Ramsey.

After a long and difficult time the University finally agreed to grant the group an official charter in the summer of 2010. Since then, PRISM has investigated hundreds of locations in the area, has become members of the illustrious Ghost Adventures Crew, Paranormal Clergy, and the Martin Business Association. It currently is known as the oldest and most respected paranormal research organization in the area and provides paranormal investigations, seminars, workshops, and home blessings and cleansings.

1.3         Policies & Protocols

There will be an organized effort on investigations to delegate certain investigation responsibilities to each primary team member actively involved on each investigation.

This could range from one primary task to a few primary tasks. Some of PRISM’s primary team members might take on the same responsibilities on each investigation to which they prefer, though we will eventually get to where all primary team members are proficient in the use of all equipment and function efficiently in all modalities of PRISM’s investigation methods.

These responsibilities will be decided upon prior to the initiation of an investigation at any location. The current responsibilities that will be delegated on an investigation include, but is not limited to, the following:

•        Equipment setup

•        Final site review prior to the investigation if necessary

•        Investigation scribe

•        EVP monitoring

•        EMF monitoring

•        Video monitoring

•        IR temperature monitoring

•        Photographers

•        Taking on additional members as investigation observant or a future potential team members

•        Equipment break down

•        Evidence review

Investigation Process

Phase 1

  •   Initial contact with client
  • Scheduling of OCI after phone interview is conducte

Phase 2

  • OCI (onsite client interview)
  • Investigation
  • Evidence Review
  • Evidence Revea

Phase 3

  • In some situations there will be a follow up investigation performed

Investigation Process

  • Client requests investigation via online form, PRISM Hotline, or at case manager’s request.
  • After initial contact is made  a phone interview is conducted. OCI and Investigation is scheduled.
  • OCI is conducted at location of suspected haunting in order to get a better idea of location, client and activity. Any forms, waivers or paperwork is signed at this time. The PCO is ONLY scheduled on local cases.
  • Investigation is performed and data collected.
  • Data analysis (evidence review)
  • Findings revealed to client.

Recording of EVP

Due to the sensitivity of the recording of EVP, the following protocols will always be followed in order to obtain the most credible EVP evidence possible:

•        When using a digital recorder, an external multi-directional microphone is not required, but may be used if using an analog recorder, high-end cassettes or micro cassettes are preferred and an external microphone (multidirectional) is required.

•        The  microphone  should  be  positioned  as  far away from the recorder itself as possible

•        Complete  silence  must  be  maintained  during  the  recording session, except for the person(s) conducting the EVP session

•        Whispering is prohibited   in   the   area   of   the recording for it could mimic the sounds of EVP. If talk amongst team members is necessary during this time, talk at a normal level and tone and make an audible comment on the recording as to whom the person was speaking. The same applies should there be any environmental noises in the background during the recording session.

•        When conducting your questions during the EVP session, do not ever refer to those you are speaking to as the “dead”, “spirits”, etc or anything that refers to them as having passed on into the other life. It is theorized that many of these true spirits don’t know they have passed on and it is of the utmost importance that the investigator conducting EVP takes this into consideration and communicates with them as if they were living and in a respectful manner.

•        Bully tactics or “egging on” of spirits during EVP sessions in order to try and obtain results will result in that team member being subjected to consideration for immediate dismissal from the PRISM investigations group

•        When using long term stationary recorders for monitoring areas for EVP, it is alright to use the VOX feature on the recorder if needed in order to save space or recorder time, though the investigator conducting the set-up and review of the recording should be aware that if an EVP is generated and it is too low of a frequency for the recorder to pick it u and initiate the VOX feature, it may be cut off or missed entirely. Backing up the credibility of the EVP session can be obtained by setting up an EMF meter in the area of the recorder as well as a stationary, monitoring video camera.

•        It is expected that the person conducting the EVP will be stationary when the recording is active. Walking during this time causes unnecessary noises on the recording and can cause untimely delays in review of the finished recording.

•        Besides   situations   where   recorders   are   left   for   long-term monitoring, sessions should be limited to no more than 4-5 minutes per file. This helps in file size and the final review process

•        The recorder, if held in the hand, should be kept completely still when conducting the EVP session in order to prevent unnecessary rubbing  and sounds on the final recording. It is recommended that the recorder be set on a stationary object during the recording. If needed, set the recorder on a rubber mat to help prevent transmission of ambient sounds through other objects, furniture, flooring, etc.

Video Recording

Video monitoring and recording on investigations should be handled per the following outline: In most cases, video monitoring will be stationary. When  stationary monitoring is being utilized,  a tripod  is  required  for cameras that have a capable tripod assembly.

·       For DVR cameras, additional lighting may be utilized in order to enhance the recorded area, but the lighting must fall under the approved lighting of PRISM.

·       For cameras with infrared night monitoring, the same may be applied if the internal or external infrared components aren’t strong enough to record a large area. 

·       Caution must be used when video recording is being used. Talking should still be kept to a minimum and any additional lighting or cameras with flashes should be noted if they come in to contact with the area being recorded. 

·       This will help in disregarding any light “anomalies” that may show up on  the video at the end of an investigation as a result of these other natural light sources. The same applies to any equipment that may have a laser source, such as an infrared thermometer.

Digital/35mm Photography

When utilizing 35mm/digital photography on an investigation, the following precautions must be observed:

·       If using the “night-shot” option of the digital camera, the camera

·       MUST be positioned on a tripod. If  a  tripod  is  not  available,  either the regular flash mode must be used or an option with no flash at all.

·       If photographing  in  a  cold  environment,  the  photographer’s breath must be held for a period of 5 to 10 seconds prior the shot in order to  eliminate false-positive “ectos”. Also, ensure no one else is in the path of the photograph or close to the camera when the shot is being taken.

·       Photography in very wet areas will be thrown out as potential evidence due to the heavy possibility of false-positive orbs. Caution must be used in very dusty environments or outdoors when allergen and pollen counts are high.

·       Ensure that camera straps are either removed or out of the lens and flash area prior to the photograph being taken. This will help in eliminating any light-emitting anomalies such as vortexes, etc. Ensure that all hair is pulled back from the line of sight as well to help prevent these same false- positives.

·       Ensure that no one is smoking anywhere around areas where photography or video is being conducted.

EMF Detection/IR Temperature Readings

One or more investigators will be on scene of every investigation and assigned to taking EMF and temperature readings. These readings will be taken and conducted in the following manner:

Prior to the investigation being conducted, preliminary readings by means of EMF and IR thermometer readings will be conducted in order to see where natural occurring temperature increases and drops are occurring, where EMF spikes are occurring, etc.

This data will be kept on-hand and will be used as reference when the investigation goes active and when EMF and temp fluctuations are occurring so that the data can be compared when the evidence is being reviewed. This will help in eliminating false-positive evidence.

When EMF readings are being taken, it is necessary that the person conducting the measurements ensures that no one else is standing immediately in front of  the EMF detector and that hand positioning on the meter is correct.

It is necessary that when conducting IR temperature readings that the IR beam is not in the direction of where flash photography is being used or where video is being recorded.

Be mindful when conducting sweeps of potential haunted objects using the specific EMF meter as many object attachments are difficult to detect. Refer to the training manual for more information.

Review of Investigation Evidence

Evidence collected on an investigation could take in upwards of 2 weeks to completely review, depending on the size and scale of the investigation and the number of different equipment being utilized on the investigation. After the evidence is reviewed, it will be resubmitted along with case reports on the PRISM Intranet. Clients will be given a copy of the evidence collected (if any) however this does not include raw audio/video and any EVP considered too ambiguous such as class d and below.

Use of 2 Way Radios

The use of two-way radios will be utilized on larger scale investigations. Though this will be the preferred method of interaction between group members present on investigations, the same rule applies to excessive talking as mentioned above.

Also, in areas where EVP and video are being conducted, it is recommended that communication over these hand held devices be limited to emergent or necessary calls in order to be minimally intrusive as possible.

Be aware radios DO interfere with some EMF meters, and any device with a REM feature.

Choosing of Investigation Participants

The choosing of investigation participants will be up the administration of PRISM or their designee. Participant selection will be based upon the size of the investigation, those first available to attend when an investigation is scheduled, those who are trained and checked off for the different areas needed for the investigation and who attended the previous investigation.

PRISM investigators and are not guaranteed to be present on every investigation. This is due to the size of the group and all the other reasons mentioned above. The selection is based on a first come first serve basis.

Additional Participants Attending Investigations for Observation

From time to time on investigations we will be having additional attendees coming on investigations with us. The purpose of this will be to see how these individuals react to active locations and to help us decide as a group to whom we’d like to make as additional team members or associate members.

These folks coming on investigations will be doing so on an observation-only basis on the first investigation and then will slowly be shown as to how to use and apply the equipment on further investigations, should it be decided that they will be attending future investigations with PRISM.

Those individuals attending in this capacity with the PRISM Investigations group will still be required to uphold to all of the expectations of the group per the policies and procedures of PRISM and can be subjected to immediate dismissal should any of the areas outlined be violated.

1-4         Teamwork

The term “team” is often used to refer to groups that meet over time to complete a project and then wind down (e.g., cross-functional teams) or is used to describe a group that operates solely as a team, with the role of leader alternating (self-directed work teams), or a traditional staff that meets as a group on an ongoing basis to discuss operating issues. Here I am using the word "team" as a synonym for “teamwork.”

When people work together in an atmosphere of trust and accountability toward a common goal, they put aside turf issues and politics and focus on the tasks to be done. This focus of resources overcomes barriers, helps to identify new opportunities, and builds a momentum that leads to three major bottom-line benefits:

1.     Better problem solving

2.     Greater productivity

3.     More effective use of resources

There is also a group of softer benefits of teamwork that greatly enhances the workplace:

•        People enjoy working together and teamwork satisfies a need for socialization.

•        Working together helps people grow as they learn from each other and develop important skills.

•        Working together toward a common goal provides a sense of purpose that is motivating and fulfilling.

Team Characteristics Productive teams usually share many characteristics. They have a common purpose each member is committed to. They stay involved until the objective is completed. They care about each other: and, in keeping with this, they are concerned about how their actions and attitudes affect each other. They listen to each other and respect all points-of-view, and are sensitive to each other’s needs. And their leaders encourage everyone’s participation in the decisions to be made. If you looked into groups of members who work as teams, you would see these characteristics or traits:

Openness and candor: The more reluctant people are to express their feelings and be honest with each other, the more likely suspicion and distrust will exist. When real teamwork is present, team members, because they basically trust each other, are more open and honest with each other.

Acceptance of assignments: It might make each of us happier if we could choose all our work. However, this is unrealistic. Still, when real teamwork exists, team members willingly accept assignments. Motivated by peer pressure, they also work hard to get their jobs done right the first time and to meet deadlines.

Understood and accepted goals: A team needs purpose, direction, and goals. These are accepted by the members of the team, and they work collaboratively to achieve them. Their manager has explained the importance of achievement of these goals in the bigger, corporate picture, and team members understand why it is so important for the goals to be reached. Committed to their accomplishment, they assist one another to make them a reality.

Progress and results assessed: Teamwork requires that members be results-directed as opposed to process-oriented. Their focus is on their objectives, and their activities are directed toward those goals. Periodically, under direction of a leader, the team assesses its progress. That knowledge serves to guide future team action. This includes identification of barriers and what can be done to rid the team of them.

Shared trust: In a healthy team, members essentially trust one another. Despite occasional conflict, members get along well and enjoy each other’s company. They cooperate and get the work done.

Involvement and participation: There are three general types of people in the world: those who do not know or care about what is happening, those who watch what others do, and those who make things happen. Teamwork requires that members be involved in their work and participate in team activities. What they say and do counts for something. Many work environments in which teamwork is practiced involve team members in decision making, practicing participant management.

Module 2:

Introduction

Module 2 describes the basic concepts of paranormal research and the foundation you will need to research paranormal phenomena.

Paranormal Research Overview

2.1 INTRODUCTION TO PARANORMAL RESEARCH

For ages the truth of the paranormal has been sought after. The research of Psychic phenomena is serious. Proof of the existence of ghosts and other psychic phenomena could change the way we look at quantum physics and even death. It is revolutionary research. The world, as we know it, is a complex place that still needs to be explored. This group isn't just about ghosts. It's about all of the anomalies and phenomenon of our world, the things that science can't explain.

Paranormal Researcher’s Quest

It's important to set your goals as well as your boundaries. When people don't do this, they often lose their focus and continue ghost hunting after it stops being interesting or fun as well as losing money. It’s important to understand the following.

·       What attracts you to the field?

·       Are you looking for proof of ghosts?

·       If you are looking for proof what would it take to prove it?

·       Is your interest more scientific or spiritual?

·       If you're a sceptic or looking for scientific evidence of hauntings, you'll focus on measurable phenomena such as cold spots and EMF(Electro Magnetic Field) surges.

·       If your interest is primarily spiritual, you'll probably develop your psychic awareness of the spirits.

·       Are you doing this for fun, and does it have to be fun?

·       Decide how frightened you are willing to be, before you leave a haunted site or even quit investigating. If you feel threatened, trust your gut and leave!

·       Are you in the field because….

·       You want to answer questions such as: Do ghosts exist?

·       For fun or entertainment

·       Money, power, popularity

2.2              Parapsychology for Paranormal Investigators

PRISM’s research is highly based on psychic research because not only investigators can have abilities but the entities in which we study also seem to have these abilities and by knowing what they are capable can better help us understand them and how to approach the situations.

It is important to know the terminology therefore please refer to the glossary to understand what certain terms or phrases mean.

Psi

A general term, introduced by T.H Thouless and B.P. Wiesner (see SPR Proceedings 47(166): 1-19) which refers to the factor(s) responsible for parapsychological phenomena. Originally derived from the use of the Greek letter psi to denote the unknown quantity in an equation.

Psychic (from Greek 'psyche')

Popular term used to denote a person who regularly uses, or who appears to be especially gifted with, psi abilities. Also refers to general phenomena related to the mind.

Extrasensory Perception (ESP)

A general term used for all forms of psi where the process of information acquisition appears to be analogous to the conventional sensory processes of sight, sound, taste, touch and hearing.

Telepathy (literally 'distant perception/feeling')

The apparent ability to communicate information from one mind to another. This information may be 'received' in the same form as that from the visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, gustatory or even kinaesthetic senses.

It is distinguished from clairsentience in that the information is assumed to have originated from the mind of another person, rather than the target object itself.

Clairvoyance (literally 'clear-seeing')

A subset of ESP covering apparent information transmission as though it were the result of visual perception.

The perception can appear externally - either replacing the normal visual scene (as in visions) or being incorporated into it (as could be the case with apparitions) - or internally, in the form of mental imagery and intuition.

Enhancing Psychic Abilities

Psychic Abilities Enhancement

Quote: “The way you do anything is the way you do everything.”

Being in touch with yourself and surroundings

· Ask yourself how often in the day do you stop and look at the food you’re eating and not the television or some other diversion. How often do you drive to work or school and actually recall the entire drive without having a mind full of “when I get there, I need to do this and that?”

· Being able to be present and aware is a practice that can be advanced through regular meditation. To be in the moment is critical as a ghost hunter. There is nothing worse than someone who’s thinking of tomorrow and next week and missing important environmental clues, i.e. sounds, temperature changes, static electricity, etc., or people who sit like zombies through reviewing video. The more time you spend in the “now,” the more you notice the good stuff and the bad stuff

· Ask yourself how present you are in your day. Some people begin with listing the things they were thankful for that day. Those things they were thankful for were tiny moments of being present and recognizing the little things. It improves your relationship with yourself when you credit your day with having pleasant surprises.

· These principles of being alert and in the moment, which are required in ghost hunting are also meditative practices and good for your overall well being. If you can just be present when you eat each time you eat, you will discover weight loss without even trying by being attuned to hunger and fullness

Meditation and Psychic Abilities

· One of the most important aspects of developing your psychic ability, and/or, clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, and claircognizance is meditation. I remember the first time I tried to meditate and it really didn't work out so well. Nothing happened!

· However the more I practiced it the more i realized that you have to give yourself time for your mind to completely calm itself. A great way to do this is by focusing on your breathing. Deep breaths...in and out over the period of a few minutes will help your body to fully relax.

· When you get into the state of relaxation, and you will know when you are there, you may then begin to see visions or hear certain things. It is also important to realize that when you are at this point of mediation, you are connected to your higher self as well as the spirit guides who surround you. Believe it or not, these guides are constantly trying to talk to you, as well as your higher self, but most of us never take the time to listen!

· You may have a few questions for your spirit guides. What is amazing is that they have answers for you and they want to help you. It may not be like a bolt of lightning when the answer comes to you, but it will come to you if you open your mind.

· Visualizing is the same thing. When you get into that higher state upon mediating, you can ask the universe or your spirit guides to show you visions and help answer your questions. It may take a while but you will see pictures or symbols pop up, and some of them may only last a second or two. You may see something that really looks like it has no business being in your life such as a flower or a king’s crown, but write this information down after your meditation. There is meaning to this and it is your job to figure it out.

Meditation:

So, there are some guidelines to remember when you plan to undertake a course of meditation.

Allow yourself to make it a regular part of your day. Set aside a bit of time so that you can be quiet and not be disturbed. This is actually a terribly important part of the process for in doing this you have made a commitment, both to yourself and to your household that you are going to do something important and wish no intrusions. I

In the beginning it might take you 30 minutes or more to even get into the mood and be in the right place. A year later you might find you are ready to go at the drop of a hat. It is the same as any other thing a person learns new, in the beginning it is a bit slow and awkward and later on it is easy. If you have that to look forward to at the beginning, sometimes it is easier to last through those first difficult days.

It is important that you find time to do this and know that first times are always difficult and nothing may happen. This is a way of life not a one time thing.

How to Sit Still for Meditation

While there are many styles of meditation, most of them begin with the basic concept of sitting still.

The most commonly-recognized sitting techniques for meditation include:

  • Kneeling – Known as the Zen or Japanese style of sitting, kneeling with the legs folded under can be very comfortable for the spine, not so much for the knees. Depending on your body, it can be very helpful to kneel with your sit bones on a cushion, bolster, block, a small bench, or another form of support.
  • Sitting Cross-Legged – This is sometimes called the Burmese or Indian style of seat. Beginners cross ankles in front. As the body becomes more limber, eventually the Full Lotus position is acquired.
  • Sitting on a Chair – While it may not seem very traditional, meditating in a chair is often the most comfortable way for beginners to sit, and is how many sanghas (groups that meet to meditate together) set up their facilities. The key is to sit up tall without resting on the chair back, and to keep the feet planted firmly on the floor.

Regardless of how you choose to sit, make sure that your back is straight, your belly is relaxed, your neck is in a neutral position, and there is no major discomfort. Although aches and pains may come and go during a meditation session, the goal is to sit still and simply witness how the mind reacts to physical discomfort. Setting yourself up with a comfortable seat to begin with makes this easier.

Sitting as a First Step to Meditation

If you've been intimidated about trying out meditation, simply starting with a practice of sitting still is a great initiation into the greater practice of meditating regularly. Once you've found a comfortable seat, the meditating individual should:

  • Keep the eyes closed;
  • Aim to sit quietly for a certain amount of time. Start with five minutes, and gradually increase the amount of time, and;
  • Resist the urge to fidget.

These, of course, are radically simplified directions. But the point is, meditating looks (from the outside at least) like simply sitting still. Think of it as putting an unruly child in time out. The child is forced to be still, calm down, and alter their current behavior and mindset.

One can think of the mind is an unruly child. Meditation can be a productive time out-a way to shift thought patterns, one moment at a time.

To be clear, simply sitting still is only one step in the process of developing a meditation practice. As Krishnamurti said, "Sitting still or sitting cross legged is not meditation but a mere rite, a mechanical ritual." However, it is that important first step to learning meditation.

Before Meditating

Taking the time to properly prepare for a meditation session will make your meditations more successful and beneficial. The following steps can help for planning an effective meditation session:

  • Select a time to meditate. Make an attempt to meditate at the same time everyday.
  • Select a place to meditate. As with the time, make it a goal to use the same place for each meditation session.

The reason a serious student of meditation uses the same time and same place is because they are trying to form a healthy habit. Just as it becomes easier to fall asleep when we use our bed and bedroom only for sleep, so to will it become easier over time to get into a meditative state.

  • Make an attempt to not be interrupted. Turn the phones off. Put the pets away. Tell family and friends to stay away during meditation time. It becomes very difficult to get back into a meditative state when a person is suddenly brought out of it.
  • Set the right mood and atmosphere for meditation. Adjust the lighting so it’s comfortable. Wear loose clothing with nothing tight around the body. If meditation music is to be played make sure it is non intrusive. Considering burning some incense for five to ten minutes prior to starting a meditation session.
  • Assume the right meditation position. It is best not to mediate lying down as that is the position which when relaxed people naturally will fall asleep. Sitting with the back as straight as comfortable and not having any other body parts crossed is one of the better meditation positions to use. The exception to the crossing rule is if one decides to sit in the lotus position.
  • Take the time to fully relax every part of your body. Start with the mind and work through each individual body part. A person can’t ever really meditate if they aren’t relaxed first.

The Meditation Process

The actual process of meditating is a simple one that requires only four basic steps.

  1. Start by taking a deep breath in through the nose a four or six count.
  2. Hold that breathe for a three count.
  3. Exhale the breath through the mouth for a six count.
  4. Repeat.

While performing this procedure the goal during meditation is to focus the mind only on the breathing. When a person starts to think about anything besides the breathing they redirect their mind back to meditation process. Eventually the mind is trained and begins to develop deep levels of focus and concentration

to add some variation to the process. As an example a person can mentally visualize they are breathing in images of love (like hearts) and they are exhaling various worries. Another popular example is for a person to visualize breathing in bright light and exhaling it.

No matter what one visualizes, the same idea of focusing the mind is the key point to every successful meditation.

After Meditating

The way a person uses their time after meditation is just as important as the prep work and process that goes into this mental discipline.

  1. Come out of the meditation slowly. Open eyes slowly and let the breathing of the body slowly return to normal.
  2. Contemplate for a while on the meditation experience. Contemplation helps one to value and appreciate life. This, in turn, creates loving and positive vibrations (or good chi) that will be beneficial long after the meditation session has come to completion.
  3. Feel free to journal about the experience. Journaling helps to raise psychic awareness. Raising awareness is a key part of developing psychic ability.
  4. Clean up and step out into the world with a more clam and clear mind.

The Benefits of Meditation

Why meditate? What are the benefits of meditation regularly? The answer is provided by a psychologist named Daniel Goleman. Mr. Goleman, also a writer for The New York Times, in his article The Meditative Mind: The Varieties of Meditation Experience indicates that research on meditation has shown that meditation:

  • Lowers blood pressure, lowers blood cholesterol, and enhances blood flow to the heart.
  • Enhances the immune function of the body
  • Helps to improve the air flow for those who are Asthmatic.
  • Helps to reduce pain levels. Meditation has been especially useful for those that suffer from long term backaches and migraines.
  • Improves personality
  • Increases psychic sensitivity
  • Helps improve memory and memory recall
  • Lowers stress levels.

By taking the time to properly prepare for, perform, and contemplate on meditation the psychic development student will be well on their way to adding the quality of mental control and focus to their psychic development training. Ultimately, those psychics that meditate on an ongoing bases end up being more accurate and more aware of subtle psychic impressions.

2.2                     Paranormal Theories

The field of paranormal research and Parapsychology is a pseudoscience and mostly based on theories. In order for paranormal investigators to understand hauntings or paranormal phenomena it is essential to know the theories that our research is based on. When we can understand these theories we can better understand why the phenomenon occurs. There are several theories out there but this section deals with basic theories.

Range of Paranormal Phenomena

•        Most alleged paranormal phenomena can be categorized in terms of whether they are primarily mental (involving the obtaining of information in paranormal ways) or physical (involving paranormal influences on physical objects, events or processes, or on living systems).

Miscellaneous Phenomena (Examples)

•        Bizarre coincidences

•        Miracles

•        Unidentified Flying Objects

•        Other mysterious sightings

•        Alien Abductions

•        Animal Mutilations

•        Corn Circles

•        Stigmata

•        Occult systems of knowledge and practice

•        Psychological Phenomena (e.g., lucid dreaming,)

Paranormal research is indeed revolutionary however most of the science is based on theories. It is important to know the theories behind paranormal investigation because knowing the bases of the how and why we do what we do is crucial to obtaining plausible evidence.

Assumption Led Investigations

A lot of current ghost research is 'assumption-led'. In other words, investigators start with certain assumptions, like 'ghosts are spirits', and then seek evidence to confirm that assumption Our People

Our leadership and management philosophies and strategies are designed to facilitate the realization of each person’s full potential.

We treat each other fairly, and with respect for individual dignity.

We adhere to the highest standards for the safe operation of our business and the protection of our people.

We accept the highest level of personal responsibility for our actions and the consequences that flow from them.

Evidence Based Investigations

Luckily, there is an alternative to assumption-led investigation of ghosts. It was widely used before the TV ghost hunting shows and deserves to be more widely adopted once again.

The approach is a more scientific, neutral, evidence-based method. Evidence-based investigations start with no assumptions as to what a ghost is or what may be causing a haunting.

Matrixing

Recent developments in neuroscience indicate that we 'see' with our brains rather than our eyes. Though our eyes contribute to the 'picture in our heads', there is also input from our memory. In particular, objects in our vision can sometimes be 'substituted' with similar things from visual memory.

These 'visual substitutions' may be responsible for some ghost, UFO and other anomalous sightings.

Visual substitutions (matrixing) are most likely to occur in poor viewing conditions.

These include:

•        low light or high light

•        objects in the distance

•        thick dust, fog, heavy rain, snow or similar atmospheric phenomenon

•        objects glanced briefly

•        objects out of focus (eg. not wearing prescription glasses or contact lenses)

•        objects in peripheral vision

Evidence Based Investigations

Debunking occurs naturally and should not be sole purpose of investigation. Some things to look for natural occurrences that could be misconstrued as paranormal are:

•        Doors

•        Windows and Drafts

•        External factors like moisture, car lights..etc

•        Matrixing

•        High EMF, Fear Cage

•        Fun House Effect

Research Theories:

While most paranormal research is based on hundreds of theories there are a few that we utilize during our research however this does not mean others can’t apply. The following are some of those theories.

EVP- Electronic Voice Phenomena

The great inventor Thomas Edison is generally credited with being the first to conceive that a device could be created to hear and speak with spirits. In a 1920’s newspaper interview he said someday it may be possible to have such a device.

This is considered a remarkable comment since Edison never really showed any interest in the paranormal, nor express any deep spiritual beliefs. Especially since Edison was the original “father” of the spirit box.

EVP are “voices” of ghosts captured on digital or analog electronic recorders. This theory states that the frequencies that ghosts speak at are not heard normally by the living unless they have the ability to hear them. This frequency is captured through a recorder or device such as the spirit box

AVP- Audible Voice Phenomena

Also known as disembodied voices, this theory has the same premise as EVP only the phenomena is clearly audible and heard at the time of the recording.

White Noise Theory

White noise is the random non-descript static sound produced by various electronic

devices.

Theory 1:

•        Using white noise during  EVP investigations relies on the random sound reorganization theory of EVP formation. That theory holds that entities take sounds in the ambient environment and somehow reorganize them into coherent words for us to hear.

Theory 2:

s  This theory is that white noise can be used to filter out background noise or enhance EVPs when listening to recordings There is some evidence this may work. Noise canceling headphones is based on a similar principle.

The effectiveness of white noise for EVP recording is debatable. Some paranormal researchers insist it acts like an attractor, immediately drawing in any entities in the area like moths to a flame.

Other researchers claim no significant increase in EVPs or other paranormal activity while using white noise and feel it’s more a distraction than a help (the white noise has to be filtered out later while trying to find possible EVPs

EMF - Electromagnetic Field Theory

The electromagnetic theory of the paranormal is that supposedly a ghost/spirit gives off an electromagnetic field which can be detected by Electro Magnetic Field meters (EMF).

Nearly everything in nature, both alive and inanimate, emit an electromagnetic field. And many man-made devices emit a very strong electromagnetic field such as electrical outlets and fuse boxes, computers, electrical wiring, television sets, air conditioning units, appliances and much more.

The units of measure most often used for EMF in the U.S.A. is called milligaus (mg). In Europe the commonly used unit of measure for EMF is the milliTesla (mt) (named after the famed scientist/investor Nicolas Tesla who experimented greatly with electricity). 1 Tesla = 10,000 Gauss.

A paranormal occurrence or ghost may give off milligaus readings in the range of 1.5mg to about 6mg depending on the EMF meter you use. If you get a paranormal reading, the reading should not be a steady. Steady/constant readings are usually artificially created. You may have to move around to see where the reading or ghost may be taking you.

Known simply as "EVP's", these are actual recordings of voices or other sounds on a tape or digital recorder that weren't caused by any explainable source. They can be as simple as a word, or as complex as a conversation. Most true EVP's are accompanied by static on the recorder. The biggest tell-tale sign is the actual frequency of the voices. Most EVP's are below the human vocal range.

EMF – Electronic Voice Phenomena Continued

EVP is said to be in the lower sound waves which are not audible to human ears. Humans generally hear sound waves that are in the 20 to 20,000 Hz cycling range. EVP's are commonly lower than this & usually captured in the ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) range of about 30-300 Hertz which is impossible for the human voice to cycle at. Frequencies are measured in cycles per second....

·       1,000,000 cycles per second = Megahertz (MHz)

·       1,000 cycles per second = Kilohertz (KHz)

·       1 cycle per second = Hertz (Hz)

EVP varies greatly & some are more easily heard & understood than others. They differ in age, gender, tone & emotion. They are often single-words, phrases & short sentences & out of context to the conversation going on or questions being asked. Sometimes they are just random noises such as grunts, groans & growling.

CLASS A EVP- is a message that can be heard without headphones & that people can generally agree on its content (s). They are usually the loudest with the words or phrases leaving little dispute over what is being said. Very clear & loud audio capture is obtained in a class A EVP

CLASS B EVP- requires a headphone to distinguish message content & not everyone will agree on the message.

CLASS C EVP- requires headphone, often needs amplification & filtering and will seldom even be heard by others.

If a person labels themselves as a “Paranormal Investigator”, the word investigator tends to lead to the collection of evidence. The seriousness of this person’s validity of their “evidence” should steer them toward the direction of how it is to be collected.

This not only applies to EVP collection but to their complete data collection as a whole. In all probability, the evidence we collect will never be presented in court. But for a teams integrity on how they conduct their investigations, evidence should be collected in such a manner that it could. While it is easy to arrive at a location, walk through, pull out the recorder & begin to record. Without a witness, either another team member, video camera or complete environmental control, the sceptics would have a field day with it. If that solitary walk through a cemetery for example resulted in voices on your recorder & you’re the only one there, can you imagine the questions that would arise from sceptics?

Were there any people taking a walk nearby? Was there traffic?

How far off the road were you? How far does your recorder pick up sounds from?

It could go on & on. This is not to say seeking to capture EVP on your own is wrong. But the best rule of thumb is “be your own skeptic.” If you travel with your recorder as some of us do, also keep a notepad & pen. If you stop by the cemetery on your way home from work, make note of your location & the surroundings. Note any ambient sounds, the nearest house, traffic, sounds of children playing, lawnmower in the background, dogs barking etc.., etc.. Doing so will give you the possible answers to the questions your headed for from the skeptics & also for your own mind’s questions.

Know your equipment. Test it. Have someone work with you to help determine the sensitivity of your recorder & microphone. This is especially important when working with a group spread out over a large area. That “paranormal” foul word you captured just might have been one of your team member’s reactions to stepping in a hole or bumping their shin on a tombstone.

Temperature Theory

The temperature theory is when a ghost starts to manifest, it can cause drops in temperature called cold spots or even cause a hot spot. The hot spot rarely happens. If it is a cold spot the temperature should be around a 5 degrees drop in temperature. However please note the environment around you as temperature fluctuations are Norma, just keep an eye on how much and the circumstances

Stone Tape Theory

Proposed in the 1970s as a possible explanation for ghosts, The Stone Tape Theory speculates that inanimate materials can absorb energy from living beings. In other words a ‘recording’ or track is laid down during moments of high tension, such as murder.  This is sometimes used to validate residual hauntings. This stored energy can consequently be released, resulting in a display of the recorded activity.

Limestone, Quartz, and/or Magnetite deposits can supposedly hold information, such as an event in history, and when the information is released a residual haunting may occur.

The replay can take the form of a full manifestation or partial sounds such as voices or footsteps. Paranormal investigators commonly refer to such phenomena as residual hauntings.

Energy Drain Theory

This theory some investigators believe that when a ghost is trying to manifest it will try to draw in any energy that is around the area.

The ghost may try to draw energy from the investigators themselves, causing them to suddenly feel nauseous or tired, or it may draw from the electrical power from your batteries that is in the equipment you are using.

Many investigators claim that they will get sudden battery drainage from the digital camera, or video camera.

This is an example why we use an EM pump in an attempt to prevent energy draining. The EMP pump acts as a “feeding” source and beacon.

2.3                  Introduction to Hauntings

While there is no 100% accurate definition of what a ghost is there several views regarding them. Some people believe ghosts are nothing more than left over energy from a deceased person.

A universal definition can be described as the apparition of a deceased person, frequently similar in appearance to that person, and usually encountered in places she or he frequented, the place of his or her death, or in association with the person's former belongings. The word ghost may also refer to the spirit or soul

They are one of our oldest & truest legends of all. Everything the paranormal investigation organizations work for almost is because of the existence of paranormal activity. This book will try & cover the levels of hauntings, the types of ghosts out there, & a dictionary page you can use to help you understand what you are dealing with. The key to understanding a haunting is to respect what is haunting it.

Ghosts cannot really hurt you unless they have poltergeist energy or high PK (psychokinesis energy. There are cases where energies/entities can push you or scare someone so greatly that they died of fright or fear. Very simply, in theory what is an entity?  An entity is the spirit of an animal, human, or living being but it goes beyond that. It’s about energy residue from the past. Sometimes this energy is negative, sometimes it dramatic, sometimes it’s good, but sometimes energy is left over & does not go away. Therefore we are haunted by the past. When an area becomes quiet, it may become a dead cell.

There are many reasons for it, perhaps there is: not enough energy for the spirit to absorb, maybe nobody is within the area in years to recognize the spirit, or perhaps the spirit finally found someone they are comfortable with. How a spirit moves objects is simple; for example let’s say you got a group of people in a room & a spirit wants to slam a door. Well the spirit needs force to do this.

What we mean by force is living souls or other forms of energy within its range. By absorbing our batteries or intense souls giving off love, fear, hate, adrenalin, etc, they are able to have just enough energy to slam a door. It’s like a light switch you can light the bulb by turning it on & feeding electricity through it. However most entities are very quiet & a lot of them want to be left in peace. So a lot of them are found in dark abandoned places. Places nobody even died in; just places that usually do not have a lot of people, sunlight, or noise. Many spirits become alive when there are things familiar to them. What I mean by alive is: they react to only certain people, objects, scents & things.

Why do they only show up sometimes? One theory is because perhaps entities cross between the spiritual realm & ours, or perhaps it’s the right time & place, or maybe we happen to walk in on them caught in the act. Spirits will show themselves when they want to. This is why some photographers get better photos then others. Some spirits are more comfortable with certain types of people but more so then others. They are as curious about the living as we are the dead. Spirits can do many things: yes they do talk, yes they give off scents such as roses, they normally feel like ice cold spots & sometimes all they are is a blur of light or foggy cloud.

Not all spirits are good natured; some intentionally get a kick out of scaring you (at least the ones that know they are dead). The sad thing is many of these spirits do not know they are dead, so they keep repeating history, roaming down halls perhaps checking someone's bed at night thinking they are checking on their kids. Spirits do have a conscious; yes you can talk to them & they will sometimes react. Not all ghosts are of people or objects, some are animal spirits. If you go into a barn, you may get pictures of chickens, cows & horses because that is where most pass away. Ectoplasm (in theory) is the ghost itself.

As far as orbs; there are 2 types of orbs: the type snow, dust, & rain create and the type that are energy balls of the deceased. Some that work with the dead, feel that when the soul leaves a body it usually is just a ball of energy. Not all orbs are ghosts. Some orbs have faces on them & you can usually tell a fake orb from the real ones because a real one gives off a corona while the center remains transparent.

Interacting With Ghosts

Assuming it is a human ghost. If you are quite sure that a ghost is real and safe to approach, you may be ready to attempt communication.

s  Speak calmly and coherently. A great many ghosts are terribly confused by their plight. Begin your conversation by introducing yourself, and then clearly ask the ghost its name.

s  Do not mention death. Unless you clearly realize that the ghost knows it is dead, do not broach the topic. For a ghost who has yet to realize it is, in fact, dead, the shock of hearing it from you could be traumatic for the specter.

s  Do not take anything from the spirit. Aside from earning the wrath of the ghost, taking any object belonging to the phantom is likely to bring a heavy curse upon your head at best.

s  Avoid physical contact. There is no way to gauge how a ghost will react if you attempt to touch it, nor how such contact will effect a mortal. You may be overwhelmed outright by the supernatural energies coursing through the phantom, or you may so offend the spirit that it decides to leave immediately.

s  Follow proper customs. The majority of the ghosts you will encounter are not of this era and thus have different notions about the conventions of polite conversation.  To avoid offending the spirits sensibilities, try to remain formal and polite in your speech and action unless the ghost takes on an informal and friendly tone.

s  Leave if asked to do so. When the ghost decides the conversation is over, back away amiably and allow the spirit to depart.

s  Leave if you feel threatened. Whenever you sense that you might be in danger, flee the scene immediately

As already mentioned above, ghosts are often flighty and easily startled, and thus any approach should be made slowly and with great care. Intro to Ghosts

While there is no 100% accurate definition of what a ghost is there several views regarding them. Some people believe ghosts are nothing more than left over energy from a deceased person.

Types of Hauntings

There are 3 types of hauntings:

Residual Hauntings

The residual haunting is a rather interesting type of supernatural experience. To be completely honest, it really is not as much of a “haunting” of a spirit as it is a recording of specific energy. Many professionals in the paranormal describe this type of supernatural experience as a “recording of past energy”. It is believed, that in a location where a person released a large amount of energy, or heightened emotions were experienced, and the energy imbeds itself. As a result of the lingering energy, individuals in the future may get to experience seeing a type of “recording” of these events. The following describes some of the signs that a haunting is residual:

1. One of the first things that the witness to a residual haunting will notice is that the spirit does not seem to interact, or acknowledge that there is anyone present. The spirit will almost seem oblivious to anything that is occurring in its presence.

2. There have been cases in which the apparition will seem to come and go. However, even when the actual spirit is not present, it is common for noises to be heard by the living. These noises often sound as if the spirit is walking, or moving things around. Once again, this is simply the energy exhibiting itself.

3. The energy that is felt in a residual haunting may be quite tremendous for the individual experiencing it, but it is not something that has to be feared. The energy may also result in interruptions to electricity and electrical appliances. It is also quite possible for parts of the area to change. Examples include the opening and shutting of doors. Once again, this is merely energy. There is no conscious effort on behalf of the spirit when it comes to these activities.

Intelligent Hauntings

Intelligent hauntings are a completely different type of haunting from residual. Whereas a residual haunting is a type of energy that has no consciousness, the intelligent haunting does have consciousness. These spirits have been accounted to interact with the living all throughout history. There are many possibilities why an intelligent spirit may elect to stay on our physical plane. Below are some common explanations:

1. Many spirits that are considered to be intelligent simply may not realize that their life has ended and they are trying to continue living as if they would if they were still alive.

2. There are some who may elect to remain on the physical plane in an effort to ensure the safety of particular loved ones.

3. There may be a strong connection to a particular place, item, or person on the physical plane that results in the spirit remaining in our world.

4. Many of the spirits may feel as if it is their obligation to send a specific message to a loved one.

5. In some instances, it may simply be that the spirit is frightened to move on from life to death, and that they need time to get used to the idea that they are no longer living.

Inhuman Hauntings

Inhuman spirits are exactly what the name implies. These spirits are inhuman and have never been a human. They exist as an entity of their own. Some claim that inhuman spirits are demons or evil spirits that were cast out of heaven with Satan. These spirits roam the earth in search of someone whom they can possess.

NOTE: Inhuman entities are mostly considered to be demonic however there are several types of inhuman entities. Inhuman  entities are just technically entities that never were human or “alive”.

Signs of a Haunting

The first step is to determine, as best you can, whether or not you truly have a legitimate case of a haunting. Not all hauntings are alike, and they may exhibit a variety of phenomena. Some hauntings feature a single phenomenon - such as a particular door slamming shut that occurs repeatedly - while others consist of many different phenomena, ranging from odd noises to full-blown apparitions.

The TV shows tend to exaggerate hauntings in order to get ratings and because of this your expectations can be contaminated. We will give you the basic signs..   Here's a partial list of phenomena that might indicate that your house is haunted:

Unexplained noises - footsteps; knocks, banging, rapping; scratching sounds; sounds of something being dropped. Sometimes these noises can be subtle and other times they can be quite loud.

Doors, cabinets and cupboards opening and closing - most often, these phenomena are not seen directly. The experience either hears the distinct sounds of the doors opening and closing (homeowners get to know quite well the distinctive sounds their houses make) or the experience will return to a room to find a door open or closed when they are certain that it was left in the opposite position. Sometimes furniture, like kitchen chairs, are perceived to have been moved. Very rarely will the experience actually witness the phenomenon taking place.

Lights turning off and on - likewise, these events are seldom seen actually occurring, but the lights are switched on or off when the experiencer knows they were not left that way. This can also happen with TVs, radios and other electrically powered items.

Items disappearing and reappearing -  this phenomenon, which we have dubbed "the DOPler Effect" (DOP = Disappearing Object Phenomenon), has been examined in the article "The DOPler Effect." Others have called this "the borrowers" phenomenon, and it's the familiar experience of not being able to find a regularly used item - say, your set of car keys - which you believe you placed in a spot you routinely place them. But they're gone and you look high and low for them with no success. Some time later, the keys are found - in exactly the place you normally put them. It's as if the object was borrowed by someone or something for a short time, then returned. Sometimes they are not returned for days or even weeks, but when they are, it's in an obvious place that could not have been missed by even a casual search.

Unexplained shadows - The sighting of fleeting shapes and shadows, usually seen out of the corner of the eye. This phenomenon has also been discussed in some detail in "Shadow People." Many times, the shadows have vaguely human forms, while other times they are less distinguishable or smaller.

Strange animal behavior - a dog, cat or other pet behaves strangely. Dogs may bark at something unseen, cower without apparent reason or refuse to enter a room they normally do. Cats may seem to be "watching" something cross a room. Animals have sharper senses than humans, and many researchers think their psychic abilities might be more finely tuned also.

Feelings of being watched - this is not an uncommon feeling and can be attributed to many things, but it could have a paranormal source if the feeling consistently occurs in a particular part of the house at a particular time.

Those are some of the most common experiences of those who think their houses are haunted, however even stranger things can happen.

2.4                         Human & Inhuman Hauntings

There are several theories on why hauntings occur and some of these include premises based on the following:

•        Ghosts exist because of a sudden tragic death.

•        The deceased person has unfinished business or does not know they are dead.

•        The deceased refuses to accept heaven or hell.

•        The deceased refuses to believe they are dead.

•        The deceased energy is attached to an object, the land, house, or living person

Apparitions

An apparition is defined as the supernatural manifestation of the soul of a deceased person or animal, typically referred to as a ghost. Apparitions are visual experiences. Throughout history human beings have seen ghosts. Despite research efforts there is still very little known about apparitions. They are the most compelling part of the supernatural field. The one thing that is known about apparitions is that no two are exactly alike. They are as complex & diverse as each living person.

Every apparition will have its own cause, origin & meaning. It's up to the ghost hunter to analyse the facts of each case & develop solid conclusions. To help the ghost hunter acquire a better feel for the kind of apparition they are dealing with, apparition categories have been created. You will find that most apparitions will fit into at least one of these categories or share characteristics with a couple different categories.

Atmospheric Apparitions

This type of ghost sighting is not actually believed to be a real ghost, but instead a visual “imprint” that got left behind in the environment from a past event. These events typically include, but are not limited to, violent & tragic events. What witnesses report seeing is the continuous replaying of past events exactly as they happened. The ghostly scenes are played & replayed with both picture & sound. A particularly strange aspect of atmospheric apparitions is that the visual picture fades down over time. As the years pass the ghosts are reported to become more & more transparent until there is no picture left at all. Over time, the sound too eventually fades away.

The most popular theory for atmospheric apparitions is represented in the field of quantum physics. Light particles become suspended in the atmosphere where they remain dormant in the environment until an outside variable stimulates them. Once stimulated the light particles vibrate in the atmosphere. Witnesses then see the frozen light particles vibrating creating a holographic vision of the past event. There are certain conditions needed for this phenomenon to occur that supports the particle imprint theory. The area must be indoors or where weather conditions cannot interfere. These apparitions can only be seen from a particular angle & at the proper distance. This means that ten people may be in the same room & only a few will be able to see the apparition.

Historical Apparitions

These apparitions are one step up from the atmospheric apparition. They typically haunt older homes & appear in solid forms acting natural. They are always dressed in period clothing & do not speak, communicate or acknowledge the presence of the living. They are seen in more than one location of the residence.

Recurring Apparitions

Recurring apparitions are ghosts that occur in regular cycles over a period of time, usually once annually. This type of ghost sighting is one of the most popular. The date of manifestation usually occurs on an anniversary date or a day of special importance to the deceased. These apparitions can include both ghosts of people & animals. Reports of recurring ghosts include individuals who have committed suicide, murder victims, & entire phantom armies marching across battlefields.

Modern Apparitions

Modern ghosts are the spirits of present-day ghosts. Not all ghosts are from ancient haunted places or of two hundred-year-old dead people. These ghosts are relatively new, looking & sounding like modern people. They still have all the same characteristics as the older haunts, (strange noises, odd odors, cold spots, etc.). Of course as decades of time pass the haunting will become more traditional & the apparitions will look dated. The times & styles will continue to change but the apparitions will not.

Crisis or Death Bed Apparitions

These apparitions appear to loved ones or close friends just before or soon after their death. They are very common ghost sightings that almost never occur after more than four days after death. Crisis apparitions are most popular during periods of wars were hundreds of cases of the appearances of dying or dead service men thousand of miles away are reported. The crisis ghost appears one last time to fulfill a promise, say a final goodbye, or express eternal love to help ease the sadness of death for the living left behind.

Haunted Objects and Object Apparitions

Haunted objects can also be referred to as cursed. This supernatural phenomenon is one of the strangest most puzzling enigmas of all the haunting styles. Most haunts have a ghost at the center. When dealing with haunted objects the question must be, “how are these objects haunted.” They were never alive and are void of any soul. Some haunted objects are spirit associated, meaning that the ghost of a past owner who had a powerful emotional tie to the object now haunts the objects.

Still, other objects leave no clue to their curse and appear to have a life of their own. In the presence of haunted objects witnesses report all types of strange occurrences like bizarre sounds & lights coming from the rooms where the objects are stored. The objects move when no one is touching them. Dark apparitions are sometimes seen near the objects. These haunted objects can include almost any possession; jewelry, collectibles, wall clocks, & furniture are some of the more common haunted objects.

There are also object apparitions. Reports of the ghost like sightings of objects like swords, books, lanterns, etc. Ghosts or spirits cannot possess objects, but they can haunt them. There is a difference.

Modes of Transportation

These are the manifestations of non-living vehicles such as cars, trucks, busses, bicycles, carriages, trains, airplanes, & ships. There are almost always associated in some way with a violently tragic demise where hundreds of people may have died as a direct result. The emotional imprints left behind in these kinds of horrible events are so strong that even pieces of the wreckage can become haunted or cursed. These vehicles are seen traveling back over their last routes in the reenactments of their final seconds. They can be dangerous apparitions because of the fact that most people who see them are themselves traveling in a vehicle. Witnesses sometime panic & sometimes wreck as a result.

Photographic Apparitions

These are ghosts that are not seen visually, but can be photographed. Most people are unaware that they have taken a picture of a ghost until they develop the film. The ghosts appearing in photographs may appear in slightly transparent grayish forms wearing period clothing, or more commonly as bright white patches of concentrated energy. Blurred areas & unexplained smears on only certain areas of a photograph are believed by some to be caused by a nearby spirit. This phenomenon has taken a new twist over the past fifteen years with the revolution of the personal video camcorder. Ghosts or phantom like images have been recorded accidentally by regular everyday people & by experienced ghost hunters.

Out-Of-Body Apparitions

The strange occurrences of out-of-body apparitions are when people report seeing the ghost of someone whom is still alive & could not have been nearby at the time of the sighting. These apparitions appear in very much the same form as a regular ghost. They can be solid or transparent, acting similar to the real person

The person whose ghost was seen is not dying or for that matter is not even sick. They are perfectly healthy individuals who say they remember everything about their out-of-body experience & give details that can be verified. Some people claim to be able to induce the experience at will, a kind of spirit jumping. Because these apparitions can appear to people that may not know the individual in real life the apparition may be mistaken for a more traditional ghost. It is said that if the living soul stays out-of-body too long then the body will die & the soul will be left a wandering ghost.

Natural and Fraudulent Apparitions

A majority of all ghost reports will end up being false. This simply means that there is a logical & natural explanation for the occurrences being mistaken for something supernatural. It's the ghost hunter's job to find & eliminate all rational explanations. Once the normal possibilities have been ruled out the ghost hunter can then begin to investigate for more supernatural answers.

On the other side of the mistaken ghost sightings are the fraudulent reports. Individuals may fake a ghost sighting for any number of reasons. Maybe they are just trying to have fun & see if they can trick someone. Or this may be their way of getting attention. It could be a publicity stunt. It could even be a case of mental illness or schizophrenia on the part of the witness, which is not fraudulent. It's important for a ghost hunter to keep in mind that there are people out there with the motives & technological know-how to produce a believable, fake ghost sighting. There have been cases of people faking poltergeist activities with houses that have been entirely wired by their owners from basement to attic to produce ghostly lights & sounds in any room on command. If the ghost hunter completes a thorough examination for logical explanations a fraudulent haunting should be easy to discover. A seasoned ghost hunter with a couple dozen cases under their belt will learn to develop a second nature for uncovering frauds.

Other Supernatural Explanations

There is always a huge list of natural explanations for producing apparitions & haunting conditions, however, after all natural explanations have been ruled out there are still some other paranormal theories that have to be looked at. While these explanations may be as hard to believe as the existence of ghosts for some people, they do have their basis from actual science. Creditable scientist trying to explain some supernatural occurrences have put forth theories such as time-slips & psychic echoes. Time-slips are moments where the past & present collide at one point. Anyone near the time-slip will be able to see into the past. Psychic echoes are where sounds from the past have somehow recorded themselves onto the stones of buildings & randomly play back like an old record. While these explanations are just as unproven as the existence of ghosts, they are theories that still need to be examined.

Frequently Asked Questions

Orbs

Orbs are spherical “lights” or balls of energy, though usually not visible with the naked eye, they typically appear on film or in photographs. Apparent in variable size, most often they appear in shades of white; however, on rare occasions they may take on different colors.

One of the leading theories concerning “what orbs are”, is that they are not the spirit at all. The orb is the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. power lines, heat energy, batteries, people, etc) to the spirit so they can manifest.  This may not even be a conscious thing the spirit is doing; just a natural way they get their energy.  This would explain why the orbs are round balls.  According to the laws of Physics, energy being transferred like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere.  This theory can also be tied into the EMF readings we get during spirit activity.

Energy, like a globule of water in zero gravity, is drawn together to form a sphere. Orbs may also have something to do with human bio energy & may be an effect of the energy of the aura. People have certainly seen orbs around other people's heads when making a spirit link.

What are the Orbs we see in ghost photos?

Found on a standard photograph these can be caused by crystals in the developing fluid that leave a ring on the picture. They can also be caused by the refraction of the light in the camera lens in both digital & in a standard film camera- particularly if you are filming directly into a light source or towards a reflective surface. Dust floating close to the lens will also catch sunlight & appear to be a ball of light. This is particularly the case if the background is dark & the light source if from the side. While most can be explained, some cannot.

What about the orbs we see on TV programs?

The effects of orbs, appearing on some of ghost hunts, which is a strange ball seems to float across the picture. Now it is quite possible that this is a paranormal phenomenon but it is probably more likely to be dust. Similarly, if someone is smoking nearby then the smoke may well appear to look like spooks. A person’s breath in cold weather can also produce a false anomaly.

What is an aura?

An aura is an electromagnetic field surrounding/emanating from an object or organism. Its

frequency is viewed in the form of color, as is the case with light. Higher frequencies are associated with warmer colors (red, orange, yellow) while lower frequencies tend to reflect cooler colors (green, blue, violet). We interpret these colors with specific meanings compiled research & examination. These auras change with our moods, experiences, physical health, & mental state. The concept of auras has been around for centuries & can be found in many New Age practices (chakras, etc.).

How do we see auras?

Though some people claim to be able to see auras with their naked eyes, most of us never will have that talent. The most common way to make auras visible is Kirlian photography. Semyon Kirlian invented a camera in 1939 to perfect this unique form of photography, capturing the electromagnetic discharge on special film plates. The Kirlian Effect, as it became known, still remains highly controversial but is researched still today.

With the advancement of digital photography, orbs have become more prevalent in mainstream investigation techniques. Since auras & orbs are comprised of the same form of electro-magnetic & electro-static energies, it seems only logical that they would behave in the same manner. Though the exact reasoning is still uncertain, digital cameras appear to be performing a form of Kirlian photography, capturing the energy, or auras, in a visible form.

NOTE: It is the view of many Paranormal Investigators that most orbs can be explained through practical means, such as dust, moisture, or errors within the picture/film.  There have been some instances however, involving depth perception & perspective that cannot clearly be explained by scientific means.

It is believed that inhuman spirits harbor extreme hatred towards humans and that all of their activities are designed to pave the way to breaking the person's will and taking possession of their body

Inhuman spirits are able to manifest themselves in any form they choose, but generally manifest as a half-man and half-animal. The body may resemble the human form with a grotesque head and face of an evil being.

The legs may be covered with hair resembling a beast. These spirits are neither male nor female, but may manifest as either, in a human form, if it serves their purpose. Most inhuman hauntings are considered to be demonic in nature however there are other types of inhuman hauntings. Inhuman hauntings are those in which the entity is not or never was human assuming it was alive to begin with or not an interdimensional being. This section does not explain demonic hauntings as you will learn about those separately.

Shadow People

Shadow-like creatures of both modern folklore and traditional native American beliefs. According to folklore, they appear as dark forms in the peripheries of people's vision and disintegrate, or move between walls, when noticed. They are common with ghost sightings Shadow people are not reported as having human features, wearing modern/period clothing, or attempting to communicate

They have been rumoured to be concise with demonic infestations however this has not been proven  The most common places to see them is at random times when you are look at a reflective surface like a TV turned off, mirrors, pictures..etc They are also see out of the corner of our eyes because of a distribution of light and certain frequencies of light.

Witnesses do not report the same feelings of being in the presence of something like a ghost. Some individuals have described being menaced, chased, or in some rare instances, attacked by shadow people. In most instances, witnesses report seeing shadow people in the peripheral areas of their vision. This area of vision is linked to the areas of the brain that recognizes patterns, however it provides less detail to the brain than (center-forward vision.

Like ghosts and demons however they appear where events in which extreme physical/emotional stress/trauma has taken place, or which have been purposefully created through black magic or other occult practices.

A belief is that they are creatures from another reality whose "dimension" occasionally overlaps with ours, allowing them to be partially visible, or that they represent creatures that exist on a separate plane of existence. Shadow people are NOT technically considered a ghost.

Classifications of Shadow People:

s  Creepers: They stand in corners of rooms and watch you (usually found in corners, doorways, or closets).

s  Lurkers: They will lurk around a house in bedrooms and hallways watching you.

s  Predators: Very rare type. The fear builds up and then disappears. There is a threat of injury and aggressive behavior, but there are no physical injuries. You may feel like your suffocating, or being pinched.

Remember on an investigation or in general that your eyes can play tricks on you.

Recognizing a Threat

Normally human spirits aren’t violent but depending on their personality, who they are, what they want or what they did while living communication with them should be taken with caution. Understand a client’s claims before interacting with specific entities.

•        Escalating poltergeists. Mischievous ghosts containing large amounts of energy who are content to steal small objects or occasionally slam doors are of little concern. However, when poltergeists steadily increase their level of violence, one should be prepared for an eventual assault. A poltergeist that graduated from opening drawers to shattering dishes is well on its way to throwing bricks at visitors and slapping children.

•        Mysterious Fires. Another frequent poltergeist activity associated with violent ghosts is the sudden appearance of small fires. They usually erupt in trash cans, attics, or garages and are initially nothing more than a minor nuisance. However, the fires will undoubtedly increase in intensity and frequency until the haunted house burns to the ground.

s  Invisible voyeurs. People visiting or inhabiting haunted houses frequently feel as if they are being watched, which is understandable given the fact that a ghost could be standing anywhere, unseen. While this feeling of being watched is not always a bad omen of things to come, if you begin to experience the sensation during private and vulnerable moments, your ghost may have low moral standards.

•        Such spirits often go through a series of increasing perverse behaviors, beginning with "innocent" voyeurism and ending with all-out sexual assault.

•        Reported attacks indicate that men and woman are equally victimized in the manner.

•        This threat could also be an inhuman entity known as an incubus or succubus. Use caution and the skills  that you gain in demonology training to detect these entities

•        Violent past. If you manage to identify the ghost (or ghosts) responsible for the haunting, be sure to investigate the spirits history, details of death, and personality during its life. Clearly, if you discover that you are sharing a home with a psychopathic ax murderer who was gunned down by police after hacking up a series or teenage girls, you are probably in danger.

•        Loved ones feel threatened. In some cases, ghosts take a liking to one of the living residents of the haunted house, but then become intensely jealous and overprotective. If you find the ghost extremely agreeable, be wary when your family begins reporting any misgivings about the phantom.

Protection

•        Ghostly attack may be manifested many ways in a weak person, such as being frightful, disoriented, weak; having feelings of negativity, thoughts of depression, thoughts of suicide or even

•        Ghost possession.  Not all of these symptoms are indicative of negative ghosts being present, but have been noted as signs of negative ghostly presence from those who are vulnerable.  Sexually perverse ghosts called incubus or succubus have also been experienced by some

s  The best way to not be vulnerable to ghost attacks is to be aware of who you are spiritually.  In other  words, being in touch with the inner spirit (who you really are) is the best way to be empower

s   Prayer to your religious figure, guide, angel, etc asking for assistance, light and protection also  reportedly works for some people..

s  Calm yourself down and speak while breathing in, “I am…” (and breathe out) “relaxed.”  Imagine yourself fearless, all-powerful in spirit and tell the ghost, “No.  Leave now.”

s  Envision a holy figure standing with you.  Absorb their energy and strength.

s  Imagine you are a light bulb and visualize the light filling you from your toes to your head and broadcasting into the room around you.  This is your shield of light that vanquishes all darkness.

When conducting paranormal research it's important to set your goals as well as your_______ .

Match each term to their definitions.

  • Psi
A general term which refers to the factor(s) responsible for parapsychological phenomena. Originally derived from the use of the Greek letter psi to denote the unknown quantity in an equation.
  • Extrasensory Perception (ESP)
A general term used for all forms of psi where the process of information acquisition appears to be analogous to the conventional sensory processes of sight, sound, taste, touch and hearing.
  • Clairvoyance
A subset of ESP covering apparent information transmission as though it were the result of visual perception.
  • Psychic
Popular term used to denote a person who regularly uses, or who appears to be especially gifted with, psi abilities. Also refers to general phenomena related to the mind.
  • Telepathy
The apparent ability to communicate information from one mind to another. This information may be 'received' in the same form as that from the visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, gustatory or even kinaesthetic senses.

What is a great way to increase psychic abilities?

Most alleged paranormal phenomena can be categorized in terms of whether they are primarily mental or _____.

How many classes of paranormal phenomena are there?

What are some differences in assumption led and evidence based investigations?

Match the theories with their names.

  • EVP- Electronic Voice Phenomena
Ghostly voices captured on a digital or analog recorder that may or have may not been heard during the investigation. Often considered the most credible evidence of hauntings.
  • AVP- Audible Voice Phenomena
Also known as disembodied voices, this theory has the same premise as EVP only the phenomena is clearly audible and heard at the time of the recording.
  • White Noise Theory
Using white noise during EVP investigations relies on the random sound reorganization theory of EVP formation. That theory holds that entities take sounds in the ambient environment and somehow reorganize them into coherent words for us to hear.
  • EMF - Electromagnetic Field Theory
This theory of the paranormal is that supposedly a ghost/spirit gives off an electromagnetic field which can be detected by Electro Magnetic Field meters (EMF).
  • Temperature Theory
This theory is when a ghost starts to manifest, it can cause drops in temperature called cold spots or even cause a hot spot.
  • Stone Tape Theory
This theory some investigators believe that when a ghost is trying to manifest it will try to draw in any energy that is around the area.

List and describe the 3 types of hauntings.

What are some ways to detect a threat when investigation a haunting?

Module 3:

Introduction

In module 3, you will learn what you need to know about being a paranormal investigator in PRISM. This section covers everything from the process to the protocols and evidence analysis...

Paranormal Investigation

3.1        Introduction to Paranormal Investigation

As you have learned the paranormal field is a broad one. It takes many forms and in order to attempt to understand the phenomena that is occurring it takes someone who is willing to do what it takes in order to help those who are experiencing paranormal activity or to gather evidence to help further the field.

Some people investigate for the fun of it but more responsible ones know that there is little to no money involved and the risks are great but they are willing to take the risks.

The Team

The paranormal investigation team Is comprised of individuals who have specific tasks or specialties. Teamwork is essential for a successful investigation. The team consists of the lead investigators, case Managers, researchers, interviewers, tech specialists/manager, drivers..etc..Each team member has a task in the investigation.

Case Manager

As groups grow over time, it soon becomes apparent that the organization benefits greatly from having a person known as a case manager. The case manager’s responsibilities include noting the intake of new cases and managing the data from ongoing investigations.

The case manager’s job does not end there; she is in charge of filing and organizing the old cases so their data is accessible to both the organization and to the client. It may be a thankless job, but some people love it, because it gives them ready access to case files and the information that they provide.

The case manager is also the person who does background research prior to the actual investigation. She digs out facts and background history and acts as the go-to person for the team in regard to basic information and setup. The case manager is the backbone of the team. When the right person is in the

Researchers

Researchers assist the case manager in researching the history of the location including the land, certain events, previous owners and other items of interest. They also assist in interviewing witnesses. The researchers also assist in heling the case manager seek out cases during slow request times.

Please see the Research Section of this manual

Evidence Reviewers

While everyone gets a chance to do this there are situations when certain people are selected to review evidence. Evidence reviewers are crucial the investigation because without people to review the evidence then the investigation becomes pointless.

Reviewing evidence takes TONS of patience and NOT for people with short attention spans. All investigators will get their chance to learn how to review and interpret evidence.

Lead Investigators

•        Responsible for organization and management of team.

•        Normally consists of PRISM admins or management.

•        Motivate team members.

•        Answer and questions team may have.

•        Investigates the location like everyone else….

3.2           Clients

The Environment

Our purpose it to help those dealing with paranormal phenomena and seek out our assistance. When you are dealing with clients whether it be in person or on not you are representing yourself and the organization. Clients normally contact us and will do what they can to help us depending on how severe the problem is.

Should PRISM be on an investigation where any of the following might take place, the investigation will be terminated immediately and all team members and those observing will gather all equipment and also leave immediately. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

•        Alcohol usage by businesses or homeowners

•        Illicit drug usage by businesses or homeowners

•        Threatening animals

•        Threatening visitors

•        Suspected devil worshiping or black magic

•        Suspected areas where séances have been conducted

•        Weapon reveal or the finding of loaded or open weapons

•        PRISM members are required to be professional and treat the clients and their property with respect.

•        Investigators are not allowed to give personal information to clients.

•        Investigators are not allowed to disclose any experiences of the current investigation as long as it is being conducted.

•        All PRISM members in the presence of clients are required to act as professionals and any behavior that is seen as crude, obscene or sexual in nature is not permitted under any circumstances.

Client Problems

Normally clients are seeking help and will do what they can to help and will most likely keep their agreement to our Terms of Service however sometimes that isn’t so.

Here are a few examples of what you can expect with problematic clients.

•        Violation of Terms of Service

•        Not being able to contact them

•        Family problems

•        Drug problems

•        Impromptu visitors

•        Early cancellations

•        Withholding Relevant Information

•        Irrational or unwilling to abide by our terms.

•        Other problems.

Dealing with Client Problems

If at any time you are approached clients that become irrational, agitated or uneasy including clients that act out this will help you how to deal with the issues. If you are unable to resolve an issue please seek assistance immediately. Your safety is our number one concern and regardless of what is being said or occurring paranormally if the envitorment becomes threating from clients then immediate termination is probable.

Whether you are on an investigation, an interview, or talking to the clients somewhere else and they become irrational please remain calm, cool, and focused.

The following are some tips when you are dealing with problem clients

.Be proactive by finding out what the protocols are BEFORE a situation arises:

•        Is there a policy?

•        What are the support structures available to you?

•        Talk to an admin

Guidelines for Dealing with Client Problems

1.     Have an updated policy knowledge.

2.     Develop communications skills.

3.     Training.

4.     Always observe verbal and non-verbal messages and respond accordingly.

5.     Paraphrase.

6.     Keep the conversation focused.

7.     Remain polite and professional.

8.     Refer to policies.

9.     Use positive language.

10.   Refer to team leader or Admin when necessary.

When confronted, assess the situation.

11.  Do you proceed?

12.  Do you find a way to postpone and seek help?

13.  You are not expected to deal with this alone

Skills built in this section:

•        Reading body language

•        Understanding of personality characteristics

•        Using paraphrasing

When a difficult Client approaches you, don’t take their tone or behavior personally. You might not be the cause of it.

•        What might have occurred before they approached you?

Types of difficult Clients

Knowing the personality of the difficult person might help you navigate ways about the moment of conflict. Remember – people aren’t their behavior. People change, and we can all be difficult in different ways.

The Know-It-All’s potential characteristics:

•        Acting like they know more than you

•        Acting as if they are better than you

•        Telling you things, even if you don’t want to know

•        Might be gossips

Possible strategies:

•        don’t be careless with words or details – know your mind

•        soften statements with ‘bear with me a moment’ and ‘I was just wondering’

•        give person shared ownership of the problem – use plural nouns (‘we’, ‘us’)

The Too-Agreeable potential characteristics:

•        Make promises when approached, but can’t deliver

•        Agrees with others to make them feel accepted

•        Uses humor to deflect moments of tension

Possible strategies:

•        Make it safe to be honest

•        If they fail to deliver something, hear the person out – don’t interrupt at first. They might just fall back to agreeing with you

•        Let them know an appropriate time to back out of a commitment, and make them feel safe to do so

The Bully’s potential characteristics:

•        Immovable positions – they want you to move for them

•        They may lie in wait for your mistakes

•        Will attack when feeling threatened

Strategies:

•        Hold your ground – make eye contact and breath slowly

•        Interrupt and paraphrase the main point

•        Promote empathy ‘From my point of view…’ or ‘The way I see it’

•        Attempt to re-schedule the conversation to another time. ‘I hear your concern, but I think we need to talk about this when we’re both settled…’

The Complainer’s potential characteristics:

•        Not happy with changes

•        May want others to feel guilt or blame

•        Refuse to work to solutions, wants to be part of an obstacle

Possible solutions:

•        Listen with paper and pen

•        Ask for their help in identifying the root cause of the problem – vague unhappiness is not something you can fix

•        Shift focus to small step solutions – they will want to talk about generalised problems

•        Show them the future is achievable – try to remove helplessness

•        Draw a line when the conversation loops back over points already made.

The Negative Person’s potential characteristics:

•        Doesn’t want to change

•        May not want to deal with the problem

•        Doesn’t think solutions will work

Possible strategies:

•        Avoid trying to show them how it could be worse to force them to be positive

•        Don’t rush them – they may come back to you when they are ready ‘If you change your mind, let me know’, ‘When you think of a solution, get back to me’, ‘If you think of any ideas, get back to me’

•        Acknowledge their good intent – appreciate their high standards, willingness to speak up, and concern with the details.

The Procrastinator’s potential characteristics:

•        Always want to do things later

•        Happier to let someone else do it

•        Can’t do it until the conditions are perfect

•        Can’t release a project until it is perfect

Possible strategies:

•        Tell them the consequences

•        Reinforce Terms of Service or Policy

•        Ask what it is that makes them uncomfortable about the task (literacy skills, too much work, trouble at home, etc)

Steps for dealing with angry people:

•        Greet the person pleasantly

•        Remain calm and respectful

•        Listen with limited interruptions

•        Use good listening skills and encouragers

•        Acknowledge the anger

•        Paraphrase and summaries

•        Apologies if an apology is required

•        Listen for statements that can be agreed with

•        Don’t debate the facts if the person is still angry

•        Ensure the person understands what you say - ‘yes’ does not indicate understanding

Paraphrasing

Often people skip words and sentences when they are angry. As your confusion grows, they read your non-verbal signals as disagreement or resistance. If you pause the person and  paraphrase their concern back to them, it helps them to breath, which calms them,  and makes them hear what you understood.

Remember - If you find yourself in a situation where you feel the discussion should not proceed, you can end the conversation. In most cases once a client violates our TOS or becomes threatening, disinterested or extremely uneasy the investigation will be terminated.

Phrases that work:

•        “Let’s talk more in depth about this on…”

•        “Maybe we should make a time to sit down and chat about this…

3.3           Historical Research

Historical research consists of researching the history of the property including the home, previous buildings on the land, the land itself (running water, limestone..etc..) and in some situations former residents. It also consists of researching tragic events such as deaths, murders, suicides that may have occurred to the former residents on or off of the property.

Historical research will prove to be a great way to initiate communication especially if the identity of the ghost is known or highly probable.

Seeking Locations to Investigate

One thing that researchers and the case manager does is seek out clients or locations to investigate and collect evidence. This is primarily done during times when there is a lack of requested cases. Requested cases always takes priority over these.

Methods

  • Do a Google search for your city, town, state, and region, using words such as "ghosts" and "haunted."  Many websites list every location that is even rumoured to be haunted.  In our experience, only a small percentage of these will have ghosts.
  • Check our headlines for recent reports of haunting
  • Read books at the library.  Most public libraries have a section about the paranormal.  Also look among books describing your local geographical area.  Libraries usually have a section specifically about their town or city, and the region in general.   While "ghost" books can be unreliable, they are a good place to start
  • Ask people.  You may be surprised by the number of people who believe in ghosts. Almost everyone has heard of a few places with ghost stories and haunted histories.  Generally, college, high-school and middle school students know the most rumours about local haunted places.
  • Check back issues of local newspapers.  Most newspapers feature haunted sites in issues published the week before Halloween.
  • Ask the police. You may be surprised that the police are often the best resource for information about hauntings. Generally skeptics, the police know which places generate complaints about odd activity--noises, weird lights, and so on--but have no reasonable explanations.

Some of these classic clichés can help you to locate haunted places. These are suggestions and you should not limit yourself to just these, spirits can be anywhere.  Don't let the age of a building or area fool you.

·       Cemeteries - The age of the cemetery doesn't matter but the older it is, the more time it has had to accumulate restless spirits.  Why cemeteries? Well there are theories such as they are portals to the other side or that some spirits are drawn to their former bodies.

·       Schools - Schools and former sites of schools may have the build up of psychic energies and imprints of all the highly emotional events that have transpired there.

·       Theatres - The actors have run the gambit of human emotions inside the walls of a theatre plus many have interesting hauntings attached to them.

·       Battlefields - These are great locations simply because of their nature.  Many violent deaths in one area will always hold some spirits and psychic energy there.

·       Churches - There is a long history of the faithful returning to the church they worshipped at.   They may be looking for the salvation they were promised and cannot find.

·       Hotels/Motels/Boarding houses - Many dark dealing and highly emotional events take places in these rooms.

·        Historic Locations - Many historic buildings, because of their age, have had more time to have spirits attach to it.  These buildings are often open the public and can give you a easy place to start.  Many even have known histories of hauntings and you may be able to gain access to the building after hours after speaking with the caretakers.

Researching a Case

Now that you have a potential case (not one requested by a client) you can begin research on the location. This method is also good for Client-Requested Cases as well…

Newspapers and the Police

The week before Halloween, almost every local newspaper runs a story related to a local, haunted place. This gives you several opportunities to learn about haunted places. First, ask your friends if they've read that newspaper article. Ask if the location in the article is really haunted. Ask if they've ever heard of other haunted places nearby. Chances are, they'll remember other spooky locations, or they'll know someone with a haunted house.

It is also recommended visiting the place that was mentioned by the newspaper. The best time to visit - besides Halloween - is during a weekend afternoon. Other people are likely to be there, looking for evidence of ghosts. In our experience, those people are likely to be chatty and know a few other local places that are haunted. Take notes!

(Also ask if they know any local ghost hunting groups, and if those groups are good.)

Because newspapers like to talk about a 'new' haunted location each year, you may find some good information in past Halloween issues of the paper. Sometimes, those past issues are online. If not, most public libraries keep back issues of local newspapers, in stacks or on microfilm. While you're at the library, ask the Reference librarian if he or she knows anything about local ghost stories. Generally, it's smart to call this 'folklore' or 'legends'.

Also, check local folklore books at the library. We've found some great, accurate stories there. We've also found quirky references to local, haunted places in regional history books from the late 19th century, when Spiritualism was popular. If you go to the newspaper office to read back issues of the paper, talk with their Entertainment editor if you can. That's not the only resource at the newspaper, but he or she often knows several haunted locations that they're keeping 'in reserve' for future Halloween issues. If you know someone who works in the police department, he or she may be a great source of information.

The police know the locations that generate calls, where there's no explanation for what's reported.  For example, they're called when a security alarm goes off... but there's no reason for it. (In some locations, the ghosts seem to love to set off alarms.) It annoys the police, and - after a while - they realize that it's something unexplained. Sometimes, they'll talk about those locations and other eerie events.

Creepy old buildings

Many of our best discoveries have resulted from research where someone on our team said that it felt creepy or haunted when he or she passed by. We had no other reason to visit those locations.

In most cases, these sites aren't haunted. The place's history or visual cues create a feeling of discomfort or dread, and that's all. It may be chilling, but it's not ghostly.

However, a significant number of sites that seem a little odd - or even chilling - have turned out to be haunted. So, once you've exhausted all known haunts, try a few places that - for no clear reason - have always given you a chill.

Getting Permission

Now, the scouting is finished and you have your site getting permission is the FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT thing you can do to get a case. This step is the MOST frustrating step in ghost hunting. Here are a few tips on how to get permission once the owner has been determined and you are now ready to contact them.

We've always stressed that ghost hunters should never trespass. But, not everyone knows how to get permission to visit an empty site, and what to ask for.

EMPTY HOMES

If a home is empty, it may be owned by a 'snowbird'. That's slang for people who spend chilly winter months in warm locations, and return north when summer heat becomes unbearable at their second homes.  The home may be for sale. If it's been on the market for a long time, it may be neglected by the owner. Often, those owners live out of state and don't realize how dilapidated their former home is. Look for a realtor's sign somewhere around the property. It may be owned by someone elderly living in a retirement community, who is unable to maintain the home but doesn't want to let it go, either.  So, how you get permission to investigate an empty house that seems haunted?

  1. Ask the neighbours. They probably know who owns the house. A neighbour may even have contact information and a key to the house, to check on it regularly.
  2. Ask the homeowners' association. If the home is in a subdivision, there is probably a homeowners' association. They almost always have a list of the houses, who owns each one, and complete contact information for every homeowner.
  3. Ask the police. We're aware that many ghost hunters are intimidated by the police. This is generally a needless worry. In fact, many of Hollow Hill's favourite haunted locations were recommended by police who'd been called to those sites repeatedly... and couldn't figure out what caused the noises, lights, or other signs of ghosts.

If a home has been empty for a while, the police probably know about it... and its history. They may be able to tell you who owns it, or point you in the direction of someone who has that info.

EMPTY BUSINESSES AND COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS

If a store or commercial building looks empty, look for a realtor's sign. Do an Internet search on the exact street address; it may reveal who was there last. Check for their current address and phone number, and they may provide info about the landlord or new owner of their old building.

If that doesn't work, the research process is about the same as for an empty house.

  1. Ask nearby businesses. In some cases, landlords are waiting for all of the tenants' leases to expire, so that they can tear down the building and replace it with something better or larger.
  2. Ask the Chamber of Commerce, or Convention & Visitors' Bureau. They often know every neighborhood in commercial districts, and have a good idea about who owns which blocks.
  3. Ask the police. Empty storefronts are sometimes the targets of vandals, and homeless people can try to use them as temporary shelters. So, the police may have information about the owner.

Final Resorts

Sometimes, no one has a clue.

If a site is that difficult to research, we recommend finding somewhere else to go Trespassing is never an acceptable alternative. But, if you're absolutely fascinated with an empty home or business, start with old, published "reverse" directories. That will probably turn up someone who was in the building in the past, and they may have information for you.

You can also go to the courthouse and research civil records, including tax histories, liens, and probate records. (In some areas, recent records are closed to the public unless you can prove a specific and compelling reason to access that information.) Some courthouses charge a fee for this, some have indexed records, and some require you to contact them by mail (not email) and wait for a reply.

In most cases, you'll want the homeowner or landlord to let you into the building and remain there while you do your research. That prevents lawsuits, especially if the site has been vandalized while it was empty. Never risk being blamed for damage that you didn't do.  If the owner simply hands you the key, have them sign a brief permission form. It should list the address being investigated, the names of the researchers who are allowed into the premises and the date and exact hours that you are allowed to be there. The owner should sign and date this form, and you should carry it with you when you go to do research.

When you return the key to the owner, have them sign the permission form again, noting that the key was returned, and when. It's just a receipt, in case questions are asked, later. Never make a copy of the key. Never let another team member borrow it. Use the key for your investigation, and--if possible--return it that same day.  There are many liabilities connected with researching in empty buildings. Generally, we advise against them. There are plenty of other, more accessible sites for investigations.

Case Research Evaluations

No matter how convincing the stories are, we research haunted sites before investing the time and energy in a full investigation. Our first steps includ

A casual, daytime visit to the site, to see what's there.

We check the most likely spots for EMF, usually with a hiking compass. We usually take an experienced psychic investigator with us, to see what he or she feels about the location. We also look for nearby landmarks, especially historical markers or places of note. We'll research them further, in case they shed some light on the stories and possible hauntings.

Basic historical and genealogical research. We're looking for evidence of the ghost (if he or she has a name) and events that could support residual energy hauntings at the very least.  We recommend checking some or all of these resources: If the ghost has a name, search at FamilySearch.org to see if there's any evidence of that person existing. (At the very least, the family surname should exist in local records around the time that the ghost supposedly lived there.) Though that database isn't 100% reliable, it is one of the most complete free genealogical listings online, and it searches on 'sounds like' names as well as whatever you enter.

Visit the local historical society and ask them about the location and/or the people in the ghost stories.  (Tell them that you're researching or writing a paper about local folklore. While some historical societies are interested in ghosts, most are uneasy and protective of local historical sites. They worry - unfortunately, with good reason - about popularity leading to vandalism.)

If the site has a staff, maintenance crew or other regular workers, ask them if they've heard about the ghosts there, or if they've had any odd experiences. (Again, it's best to say that you're researching local folklore.)

Check the public library. Ask the Reference librarian if he or she has any material about the site, especially its ghosts. Even if the only references are historical, they can provide clues. You're looking for events with intense emotional content, and tragedies.

If your town has a genealogical library, visit it and ask about the family name and the location. Genealogists are people who research the history of families… their roots. Often, a genealogist is delighted to find someone who's equally interested in a family that he or she has researched.

Also, at the historical society, public library or genealogical library, look for historical maps featuring the haunted site. They can be excellent resources. Researching the history of a home can be time consuming, but fun and rewarding. All it takes is a notebook, some pencils, and a pocketful of quarters to be a do-it-yourself Old House Detective.

Where do we start? When searching for a home's history, the best place to always start is with the previous owners or long-time neighbors. These people may have information about the house or recall changes to the home. Long-time neighbors are often familiar with the area's history as well. They can point out where old landmarks once stood, and neighborhood improvements which give insight into the area's early history. They may even have old family photographs showing your home in the distance. After collecting this neighborhood history, the next step is a visit to the Recorder's Office at City Hall. The Recorder's Office houses the deeds of record to all properties in the community. Deeds are usually listed by the legal description, which reads as a lot & block in a particular subdivision or as sections, townships and range for rural residences

. Deeds usually show the progression of ownership of a home, as it passed from one owner to the other. It will also show any legal notices against the property. Look for transfers of title or quit claim deeds, mortgages and bank liens, or even construction liens. Road improvement and sidewalk liens will also show up on the deeds of record as well. With diligent detective skills, you should be able to go clear back to the time of the original land grant signed by a president of the United States.

While at City Hall, check the records of survey on the land, tax assessments, appraisals, building permits, and inspections. These will help determine if any work has been done on the property or if the original site was once part of a larger piece of property. Some cities even have aerial surveys of older neighbourhoods or an old fire map. Copies of these documents can be purchased at a nominal cost. Is the home in a water or irrigation district? Search for the records of water right to find the location of old ditches or an abandoned well.

While searching any records, pay particular attention to the address and the street names. Older house can go through several address changes, or switch from a lot and block description to one that reflects part of a section and township. In the west, it was very common for small towns to be absorbed by larger ones. Keep an eye on those name changes, they will be needed to search the area's history.Record names, dates, sales prices, liens, addresses, and any other pertinent information in your notebook and continue the search at the library. The library search Most towns have a public library; larger communities may also have a genealogy library, or a state or regional library and archives. All libraries should have a Polk's reverse telephone directory. These directories index residential and business telephone numbers by the address, instead of the name. Polk directories go back as far as the mid 1890s and provide a surprising amount of information. The directory will list the head of household, the owner's occupation and sometimes if he was conducting a business from the house as well.

The public library will also have microfiche newspaper records which should go back to the early days of the area. These records are usually indexed by name. Take the time to cross search the names of the home's early residents. You may turn up announcements of social gatherings, visiting dignitaries, or other information which will help bring dimension to your home's early history. From these records, we discovered that our home once served as an early mayoral residence, and an informal public meeting house for several local civic clubs. At the genealogy library, search census records for more information about the people who once lived in the home. Census records were kept as far back as 1790 in some states, though in the west, there isn't much before 1870. Census records list jobs, names, ages, addresses, and relationships of the people living in a single residence. If you don't have a Genealogy library, the local library can order microfilm with census information. Searching the area history

Next on the list is to search the history of the area. These sorts of records may be kept in the local library, the county library, or a regional Historical Library & Archives; your librarian should be able to direct you to where these resources can be found. Area histories are a valuable resource in recreating the history of your neighborhood. They might describe old logging ponds, irrigation ditches, former churches and businesses, trolley lines, and other types of helpful information. Don't limit yourself just to the name of your neighborhood; try researching the names of your home's previous occupants. Regional history books are filled with photographs of early settlers and their residences; they may even have a photograph of your home! If you have county or state archives nearby, spend a morning searching through old photographs of your neighborhood.

There might not be a photograph that is specifically of your home, but there could be one of the block or of a nearby commercial building. With any luck, your house may show up in the background of some of those photographs. Visit the Oral History department while at the Library & Archives. This agency stores tens of thousands of taped interviews; they may even have an interview of one of the home's former owner.

3.4           Equipment

General

Many organizations such as ours utilize certain equipment in order to help obtain evidence of paranormal phenomena. While there are many types of equipment and many theories behind such equipment there are also a lot of equipment designed just for marketing and to make money that are more like toys than something that gives results.

Our Equipment

For a complete list of our equipment you may visit the official website. Further information regarding our equipment is available in the equipment section of our training video.

Reading an EMF Meter

Electromagnetic fields are everywhere. They are all around us. Every electrical device that we can think of emits some form & level of electromagnetic field. Magnets emit magnetic fields. Lights emit electromagnetic radiation (waves). Batteries emit electric fields. Cell phones emit intermediate frequency electromagnetic waves. The list goes on & on and on.

The earth emits electromagnetic fields as well. As a matter of fact, the earth is one big magnet. The magnetosphere of the earth protects us from harmful solar electromagnetic radiation. Without the earth’s magnetic shield, we would be toast by now!

Anything that has a charge emits electric fields, & any charge that moves (i.e., electrical current) emits magnetic fields, & any charge that frequently moves from side to side emits electro-magnetic radiation (waves). It’s for this reason that the power in our homes, AC (alternating current), produces electromagnetic waves, as the flow of electrons move back & forth about 60 times per second (60 Hertz). As discussed earlier, electromagnetic radiation is the product of magnetic & electric fields oscillating very fast, & the two fields mutually reinforce each other – allowing them to travel farther into space. The faster this oscillation, the farther away from the source the waves can travel. Electrical devices that use direct current electricity (DC), in which electrons flow in one direction, produce electric & magnetic fields, but because the current is not fluctuating, as in AC environments, no electromagnetic waves are produced.

As you can see, many different sources of EMF exist. And different sources produce different kinds of EMF. It’s for this reason that certain EMF meters don’t pick up certain types of EMF. Most of the EMF meters used today in the paranormal research field are designed to detect EMF waves (radiation). These types of meters detect various levels of EMF radiation emitted from sources such as AC. Just about everything powered by electricity today exists in the form of AC. And since we’re living in a world that’s dependent on AC, we can find AC-generated EMF radiation just about everywhere we go where there’s electricity. So, it’s common to find EMF near circuit breakers, lamps, TVs, walls with electrical wiring, & so forth.

It’s not common, however, to detect EMF far away from its source. For example, to detect the EMF emitted from wires behind a wall, you would have to place your meter close enough to the wall to detect the EMF. The farther away from the source the EMF is, the less likely you are to detect it via an EMF meter.

Electromagnetic field detectors are very useful tools provided they are used properly.  There are instructions with each type that you should read. These meters detect fluctuations in Electromagnetic fields.  EM fields are normally generated by electrical appliances & other items such as computer monitors, cell phones, etc.  They are also created by the weather in outer space such as geomagnetic storms & solar flares.

When you find an unexplainable field, normally between 2 to 7 milligauss, it is said that is associated with spirit activity.  These meters are will not always detect a spirit present, but they are another helpful tool is tracking ghosts.  EMFs are measured in units called milligauss. Please note that most of the time we use the meters to rule out certain factors that may cause the misconception of spirit activity.  We don’t solely rely on EMF meters to detect spirit activity but we use them to back up occurrences in conjunction with other pieces of equipment & our personal experiences.

The things listed below can give you false positive readings when you are near them. Some of these things generate EM fields that surround the object and are a few feet thick so you do not have to be right on top of it to get a reading Even a 2 - 7 milligauss reading can be given of by something natural so try to trace out a source. This is essential indoors.

The following items can give false positive readings and are common sources of high EMF.

·     Computers

·     Clock Radio

·     Digital alarm clocks

·     Microwaves

·     Electrical outlets

·     Electrical lines

·     Lamps

·     Refrigerators

·     Pipes

·     Ballasts in fluorescent lights

·     Batteries

·     Telephone lines

·     Power lines

·     Very high solar activity

Note: We use an analogue EMF meter known as the Cell Sensor to primarily back up our MEL-REM readings. We use the digital EMF Meter known as the MEL meter which takes temperature and EMF readings digitally in order to conduct base readings  prior to and after investigations. Also, remember that cell phones, radios..etc WILL interfere with any EMF meter including REM features.

Cell Sensor

Like other high end meters, the Cell Sensor is not easily affected by interference that other meters might pick up. Without the probe the meter detects radio frequency signals, with the probe it is an EMF meter that picks up Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) EMF signals. Remember we are looking for 2 – 7 milligauss readings that are not coming from natural sources.

The advantages this meter has over other meters:

-        Audible alarm (with volume control)

-        Flashing light alarm   (red end of meter lights and blinks)

-        Can be used as a stationary or hand held meter

-        Can be used in areas where the ELF Zone or Gausslite meters won’t work.

How to read the cell sensor

The bottom numbers in green are the scale we read. It is marked in milligauss & numbered 1-5.   On the right side of the meter there is a switch marked N & H (Normal and High).   There is also a volume control knob on the right side for the audible alarm.   When the meter is set to the Normal it picks up readings in the 1 to 5 milligauss range.   When the meter is set to High the meter picks up readings in the 1 to 50 milligauss range.   On the High setting you must add a “0” to the end of each number on the scale (1-5 becomes 10-50).

Using the Cell Sensor on Investigations

Just like the Tri-field, all the groups Cell Sensors should be used on every case. They can be placed in stationary positions all around the location & it can be carried as you walk around too.    Putting in a stationary spot allows it to monitor an entire area just like the Tri-Field meter does.   Use these settings when using the meter

In a stationary position:   Set the meter to High & place the meter on a flat surface. Place the probe’s tip facing the area you want to cover. Walking around with meter:    Set the meter to High but if you continue to get false/natural readings then switch to the Normal setting.    The Normal setting will usually work best when walking around in an indoor location.

An important tip with the cell sensor is how to hold the probe.  Never hold the probe by the wire.  Holding the probe by the wire will give you false readings.  Please keep this in mind when using.

Note: We use this meter to scan for haunted objects as well so be careful when scanning objects and be VERY careful with old or antique items.

Capturing EVP

Scenario # 1

This scenario more likely would come into play in a group setting or outdoor investigation.. A team of two or three uses the recorder. It is "taken" on a walk (again, ensuring that the microphone is away from the mechanism, fresh batteries) & the researchers simply converse or even possibly ask questions.

Watch for "natural" explanations for possible captured sounds. The person holding the microphone must be vigilant for things like other people, nearby sources of sound or "natural" causation (such as wind or the like) & make note of it. Again, when playing back later, listen for ALL sounds with the team & make sure you honestly write off any "normal" interference so it is not mistaken for the "paranormal".

Scenario # 2

Two members, preferably three, but two will do (one to witness & observe for ambient sounds & to make sure that the data is "pure"). the microphone & recorder are placed in a central location & left on recording. The researchers must face each other or an ideal situation would be to have a video camera trained on them. While there, a series of questions should be asked aloud to "anyone" other than the visible to answer. Leave at least ten seconds (silence) between each question for an answer & try to do "reasonable" questions for the environment. For example, the basic questions good in any location are...

Is anyone else here?

Who are you?

Why are you here?

How old are you?

What year were you born?

What was your mother's name?

Are you waiting or looking for someone?

After these questions, ask five or more specific to the possible 'ghost' at the site. Things like "Is it you who's been seen at the stove working & if so, why?" (If there have been reports of seeing someone standing at the stove). The questions should be decided on before the actual recording.  It is crucial to “tag” or make a note of any natural occurrence such as a caught, sneeze or even a fart. You will understand when you review evidence for hours and get something “compelling” until you find out that someone made a noise and forgot to tag it.

Example:

Question #1: Member cleared throat. Car passed outside.

Question #2: Telephone Rings.

Question #3:

Question #4: My stomach growled. etc..etc..

Conducting this in darkness is really up for discussion. Some tend to think that total darkness invites interaction, but makes it hard to differentiate if that heavy sigh they just heard was a fellow team member or an “entity”. Additionally it’s quite difficult to write in the dark. If low light conditions are preferred, a small flashlight could be used. After this recording session is done, you can switch over to leaving the recorder running while everyone leaves the room for a period of time "just in case someone is shy".

EVP Tips and Info

The process of recording a ghost's voice on tape is referred to as EVP, or Electronic Voice Phenomena. It's a concept that has really caught on in the past few years.

The idea behind EVP: Go into an area that could contain spiritual entities & literally have a conversation with the ghosts. Ask them a question, wait a few seconds, then ask another question. It's not important to actually hear the ghost's response to the questions. If you do hear a verbal response then your ghost hunt has just found gold. When you've finished asking all of your questions go back home & rewind the tape. Listen carefully from the beginning to the end for anything out of the ordinary. It has been reported in some haunting cases that the ghosts at the site have answered the ghost hunter's questions. You have to listen closely, the answers are not always clear, & may even be in a different language.

Many people have had success with this method however there are some serious problems that need to be addressed. One key characteristic important with EVP is the ghost hunter's own listening process. The tapes have to be reviewed & carefully listened to several times. The problem with that is that if you listen to anything long enough you can begin to hear things. You also have to be able to weed out all the background noises such as passing cars, barking dogs, the wind, etc. There's also the nature power of suggestion.

•        Know your equipment

•        Know our methodology

•        Create your own styles.

•        Think outside the box

•        Make a best guesstimate of who or what you are communicating with.

•        Don’t be TOO repetitive.

•        Make your intentions clear and be persistent and coherent.

•        Do NOT use provocation, rather use invocation.

•        Don't bump the microphone & if you do, make a verbal note of it on the tape. You may also want to note any other nature sounds such as gusting winds, creaking doors, etc.

•        Record in 20 to 30 minute sessions. You can record longer, but keep in mind that you have to listen to the audio later. If you record two hours of audio then you have to listen to two hours of tape. That can be very time consuming.

•        Ask clear & precise questions.

•        Don't whisper during the recordings. You are not going to scare the ghosts away.

•        After each question wait at least 10 to 15 seconds before asking the next question. It won't do much good if you never let the ghost get a word in edgewise.

EVP Sessions

When conducting an investigation and attempting communicate remember how you sound when you ask questions. Invocation is more or less respectfully try to communicate whereas provocation is demanding, threatening and being highly aggressive and in some cases using profanity to get responses.

There are four stages when conducting EVP sessions but it depends on the situation ultimately on how to utilize these.

Stage One: Identify

•        What is your name?

•        How old are you?

•        Do you have any relatives? What are their names?

•        Are you married? What is your spouse's name?

•        Where do you live?

•        Where do you work (or go to school, if the ghost is young)?

•        What are your hobbies or favorite pastimes?

•        Who are your close friends?

•        Where do you most like to visit?

•        Where were you born?

Stage Two: Assessing a Ghost's Mental State

•        How do you feel at this moment?

•        How do you feel in general? Are you generally happy or sad?

•        Physically, how do you feel?

•        Are you hungry or thirsty?

•        Are you frequently tired, weak, or cold?

•        Do you consider yourself forgetful?

•        Do you miss your loved ones?

•        Do you consider yourself normal and well-adjusted?

•        What year is it? Do you know today's exact date?

•        Where are you?

•        Do you ever feel trapped, confused, or lost?

Stage Three: Confronting the Ghost with Death

•        Do you ever have dreams in which you die?

•        When was the last time you had anything to eat? If it has been quite sometime, does that seem unusual to you?

•         When was the last time you saw your family, friends, or spouse? If it has been quite sometime, does that seem unusual to you?

•        Have you ever walked through a wall by accident or felt invisible? Does this seem strange to you?

•        When was the last time you had anything to eat? If it has been quite sometime, does that seem unusual to you?

•        When was the last time you saw your family, friends, or spouse? If it has been quite sometime, does that seem unusual to you?

Stage Four: Learning About the Afterlife

When you confirm the ghost knows it’s dead.

•        Can you fly, move through walls, or become invisible?

•        Do you feel that you have returned from the dead because you have a mission to complete?

•     Do you feel that you have returned from the dead because you are searching for someone or something?

•        How did you die?

•        [If the ghost was murdered] Who do you think was responsible for your death?

•        [If the ghost was a suicide] Why did you take your own life?

•        [If the ghost died in a tragic accident] Do you know of others who perished with you?

•        What do you enjoy most about being a ghost?

Note: Don’t forget to ask questions about the intention of the ghost with the people living or working at the location. DON’T FORGET WHY YOU ARE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Sample EVP Questions:

•        Where do you come from?

•        Who are you?

•        How old are you?

•        What year were you born?

•        What was your Mother's Maiden name?

•        Are you waiting for someone?

•        Are you looking for someone /something?

•        Is there anything we can do to help you?

•        Did you live at this location?

•        Is it you that has been seen?

•        Are you the only one here?

•        Why are you still on this plane of existence

•        Do you know that you are dead? Most researchers consider this one a no-no and

could escalate the haunting activity, use your best judgment...

•        What is your name?

•        What did you do for a living?

•        Were you married?

•        What was your spouse's name?

•        Did you have any children?

•        Do we look stupid asking questions to an empty room? :)

•        Why are you here?

•        Are you here with us now?

•        Are you attached to a certain object at this location?

•        Are you here because you died here?

•        Are you attached to this place or a person at this location?

•        Do you not want us here?

•        Is there a reason why you are still lingering at this place?

•        Is there a presence in this room right now?

•        Would you like to talk to us?

•        Are you male or female?

•        How are you feeling?

•        Do you know what year it is?

•        Are you here all the time?

•        Are there children here/there?

•        Do you know who we are?

•        Are you a spirit?

•        Are you resting here?

•        Are you happy/unhappy?

•        Is there anything you want to say?

Static Recorders:

One thing that PRISM does is leave basic recorders around a location to collect audio constantly during the investigation. We only set these in strategic areas that we may not be able to do video surveillance or most of the activity is audible.

Ghost Voices

Ghost voices are voices of ghosts either heard audibly, inaudibly or collected through EVP ghosts have voices too, but most often speak to us through thoughts. These thoughts may go unnoticed within us, and be accepted as being our own.

Learning to differentiate between our own voice and ghost voices will open one up to more of what is going on around us in the unseen. When people who receive ghostly thoughts do not recognize them as the voice of ghosts speaking to them, the disembodied spirit or spirits may become frustrated and turn to noise making, as well as other attention-getting schemes, such as hiding objects.

In contrast, the voices of those who are enlightened spirits also come to us and are perceived typically as spiritual thoughts , as well. The difference between the ghost voices and voices of enlightened spirits is that ghosts have a tendency to (although sometimes unknowingly) seek control, or have their own selfish interests first, while the enlightened spirit voices seek only to assist and aid from a higher perspective, and never interfere with our lives.

Instrumental Trans-Communication

Try to imagine the following:

The telephone rings. You pick up the receiver & say hello. A familial voice answers & continues to talk. This would be a typical experience except the caller is a close friend that passed away the week before. They tell you that they are fine & you shouldn't worry about them. Before you can get the nerve to say anything the call slowly fades out leaving the line silent. You listen for a few more seconds before hanging up the phone in total shock.

While being a rare form of spirit communication, there have been hundreds of reports of this mysterious phenomenon, named simply, telephone calls from the dead.

In almost all cases the caller has a close emotional tie with the person they are contacting. They're usually a spouse, parent, child or good friend. The intentions of the telephone call will vary. Sometimes the calls will be on the date of a special anniversary, or to warn of some kind of impending danger. Other times the calls are messages for the living to carry out a task on behave of the deceased. The majority of these calls seem to be to express love & give a final goodbye.

The caller's voice sounds exactly the same as when they were alive. There may be static or other strange noises on the line. The telephone calls can last anywhere from only a few seconds to a couple of minutes & it usually ends with the voice fading away until there is nothing to be heard on the line but an eerie silence.

Critics point out that these cases are probably dreams or hallucinations. Others have concluded that this is one way that the human psyche deals with the lost of a close loved one. A way of working out the intense feelings felt from a tragic loss. To an extent the critics have valid theories, however, it should be noted that a percentage of these contacts had no idea that the person calling them was dead. This type of spirit communication has also been reported in other electrical appliances such as radios, CB's, television sets & computer systems

Astrological Conditions and Paranormal Phenomena

Solar activity, lunar phases & geomagnetic fields seem to have an affect on paranormal activity. Evidence suggests that with increased solar x-rays & geomagnetic fields in space comes an increase in the amount of spiritual activity here on Earth. For example: usually either a full or new moon is found to have direct correlation with an increase in paranormal activity.

Geo-Activity & the Paranormal

Solar flare activity, geomagnetic field activity & the lunar cycle have been thought to have a bearing on the amount of paranormal activity present. To put it simply...more "ghost activity" is reported during times of M class/X class solar flares, high geomagnetic field activity & new/full moons. The moon relates in this fashion, the closer the moon is to the Earth & the "newer" or "fuller" it is...the higher the geomagnetic fields.

So what happens is the solar flares ionize the Earth's atmosphere (electrically charges it) & increased geomagnetic fields raise the magnetic flux which causes higher electrical charges in anything, capable of carrying an electrical current, that moves through the field (Lenz's Law).

There is a problem with more sensitive EMF detection equipment during this period...they can give erroneous positive readings. Not erroneous in regards as to whether or not there is a field present...erroneous in the fact that what might be thought to be a indication of something "out-of-the-ordinary", not expected for a given area, etc... really isn't so "out-of-ordinary" given the current atmospheric conditions. In other words, we should be aware of these conditions so that the readings can be carefully reviewed & examined

With that said...if you adhere to the belief that the spirit world is made up of beings that, in addition to being energy themselves, use the normal energy sources available to them, i.e.: household appliances, batteries, wiring etc to manifest their presence. Can you imagine what they can do with all this excess energy due to atmospheric conditions? It’s like hitting the Nitrous Oxide boost on a car!

Bottom line is if you see storm conditions & a new or full moon it could explain why your long deceased relative just showed up  in your living room.

3.5           The Investigation

After getting a case and completing all interviews and completing paperwork the investigation is the main objective of our organization and we use most of our resources on it. This section is not intended to inform you of policies as you should already know those. This section is merely about the investigation processes and what you need to know about them including our protocols.

Knowing Your Abilities

One thing that all beginning investigators of the paranormal need to understand is what abilities they may have. Now, some people may or may not even know that they have abilities before they get to an investigation. Here are a few abilities that most paranormal investigators may or may not have.

Clairvoyance - A subset of ESP. The viewing of distant scenes not apparent to the eye, may appear externally - either replacing the normal visual scene (visions) or being incorporated into it (as could be the case with apparitions) - or internally, in the form of mental imagery and intuition. Basically individuals who have this may have the ability to see ghosts

Clairaudience – Basically like clairvoyance only audio based. People who have this are more prone to hear AVP or audible voices of ghosts/spirits.

Empathy- The popular usage of this term refers to a low-level form of telepathy wherein the empath appears to be aware of the emotional state of a distant person. An empath may also be able to “broadcast” emotions to others. Being an empath is being able to feel emotions of past events or even emotions of ghosts.

These people are prone to psychic attack more than those without the ability. They are also the ones that tend to let emotions run their investigative skill and should be monitored especially in cases of demonic or severe poltergeist activity.

Process

The following is the process of investigations.

Phase I

•        Initial contact with client

•        Scheduling of OCI after phone interview is conducted

Phase II

•        OCI (onsite client interview)

•        Investigation

•        Evidence Review

•        Evidence Reveal

Phase III

•        In some situations there will be a follow up investigation performed.

Detailed Process Descriptions

•        Client requests investigation via online form, PRISM Hotline, or at case manager’s request.

•        After initial contact is made  a phone interview is conducted. OCI and Investigation is scheduled.

•        OCI is conducted at location of suspected haunting in order to get a better idea of location, client and activity. Any forms, waivers or paperwork is signed at this time. The PCO is ONLY scheduled on local cases.

•        Investigation is performed and data collected.

•        Data analysis (evidence review)

•        Findings revealed to client.

Methodology

•        The walkthrough session is done in order to capture any evidence of haunting that may include entities that do not wish or are afraid to communicate using equipment.

-        For example, a ghost from before the time of flashlights,  modern cameras or any odd gadget may not wish to or are afraid to utilize the equipment to communicate.

•        Downtime is conducted to give all teams a chance to rest, eat snacks, or just reenergize. This also gives entities a chance to reenergize themselves for communication.

The formal investigation session utilizes any needed equipment in hopes of gather further evidence that can be validated using equipment

On-site Investigation Process:

After all interviews have been conducted an investigation will be performed.

Phase I

•        Arrive at location, conduct tour of location for entire team, base readings are conducted, and investigation as well as protection preps are made.

•        Walkthrough session for all teams. This pre-investigation requires no equipment but Digital Voice Recorders.

•        Downtime session for all teams to reenergize.

Phase II

•        Investigation for both teams using any needed equipment.

•        Final sessions and breakdown of equipment

On-site Investigation Protocols

•        On this investigation itself no investigator is allowed to investigate alone unless it is their decision and they understand the risks. However, they must never exceed the distance in which another person  can assist in the case of a problem.

ALL cell phones, tablets or any electronic device not being used for research must be left at command center. This is because of interference of equipment and can contaminate evidence.

•        Nobody is to have or use any illegal drugs or alcoholic beverages before, during or after an investigation nor during anytime during an organization function.. Violation of this will result in immediate removal from organization. Remember to be professional when dealing with a client or in their home

Patience is a virtue

Keep in mind that many ghosts are from time periods when cameras — especially flash cameras — did not exist. They may be afraid that the camera captures their soul (or a part of it); some ghosts may even think that explains why they’re still on earth when they expected angels to escort them to “the other side.”

•        Don’t be TOO SKEPTICAL because this can annoy entities and cause them not to communicate.

•        Wear suitable clothing, including sturdy footwear

•        Don’t eat a heavy meal immediately before ghost hunting, but don’t arrive hungry, either.

•        If you possess psychic abilities you may not know it until the investigation. For example, if you cry, feel very uneasy, anger or any extreme emotion during an investigation let someone know immediately.

Emotional Requirements of an Investigator

Being on a paranormal investigation can be very scary, very exciting, or very boring. No investigation will produce exactly the same emotions. However, a person’s feelings can directly affect the entire outcome of the investigation. This is why we suggest all team members always keep their emotions in check. Sometimes unusual emotions can come out without any realization, or rationalization. Sometimes they can be directly due to the nature of the investigation, but sometimes they can be directly due to the nature of the entity.

Panic is another emotion to keep in check. Everyone gets scared, & it’s justified. However, the reaction to the fear is what’s important. Although we all see the “Fear” based programs on cable TV, the worst thing you can do is let out a blood curdling scream in a suburban neighbourhood at 2 AM. Especially when it was just the family cat that scared the screamer. It’s highly inappropriate at any time, & if someone is that scared of ghosts should they really be looking for them?

Just imagine the reaction of the neighbours, the police, fire department & the client when a circus forms on the front of their front lawn all due to one investigator with unsteady nerves doing a bad rendition of Jamie Lee Curtis Finally, Sometimes a haunted area will produce unusual feelings simply due to the entity. Sometimes more sensitive people experience unusual feelings being in a haunted place.

A positive attitude is imperative in a paranormal investigation & if an investigator feels something negative in any way it’s important to let the team leader know exactly what’s going on. A pep talk, a breather or just a change of location may be needed to feel right again. If it lasts for more than a day contact the director, & a good director or founder should know what to do. Just remember if you don’t feel like yourself, there may be a “paranormal” reason.

Psychological Responses during an Investigation

Psychosomatic response:

Psychosomatic response is descriptive of physical symptoms (real or perceived) that are caused by some form of psychological stress, to manifest a mental state in the form of physical symptoms. In ghost hunting these experiences can be experienced in the form of being touched, shortness of breath, tingling sensations in the limbs, sudden sensations of pain, dizziness, visual hallucinations, nausea, & even equilibrium change (“energy” rushing through the body).

These effects have been tested & confirmed by multiple researches in various labs. It is important to understand that there is an element of belief that must be involved in order to induce psychosomatic response. Certain individuals may be more acceptable to this phenomenon than others. Several studies have linked some psychosomatic response with Adrenaline. Adrenaline can amplify the senses which in turn increase the possibility of perceiving a normal event as a paranormal one.

What makes psychosomatic response so difficult is that the experience is very real to the participant. This is listed first because it is the common “explanation” that critics give to ghostly encounters. In general, if you start freaking out, remove yourself to a safe area for at least 30 minutes. Psychosomatic response is easier to initiate when a person is alone. Rely on your instrumentation & describe what you feel.

Hysteria:

Mass hysteria is characterized by the rapid spread of conversion disorder, a condition involving the appearance of bodily complaints for which there is no organic basis. In such episodes, psychological distress is converted or channeled into physical symptoms.

There are two common types: anxiety hysteria & motor hysteria. The former is of shorter duration, usually lasting a day, & is triggered by the sudden perception of a threatening agent, most commonly a strange odor. Symptoms typically include headache, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, & general weakness.

Motor hysteria is prevalent in intolerable social situations such as strict school & religious settings where discipline is excessive. Symptoms include trance-like states, melodramatic acts of rebellion known as histrionics, & what physicians term "psychomotor agitation" (whereby pent-up anxiety built up over long period results in disruptions to the nerves or neurons that send messages to the muscles, triggering temporary bouts of twitching, spasms, & shaking). Motor hysteria appears gradually over time & usually takes weeks or months to subside.

Paranormal Investigators are most often affected by demopathic hysteria. Typically this involves the belief that something has followed them home from a ghost hunt although it can also include some symptoms typical of psychosomatic response.

Bias:

Investigator Bias occurs when the interviewer is aware (not blinded) of the outcome variable. A non-blinded investigator may be more vigorous in searching for the exposure of interest.  Bias can occur from both angles of investigating, believer & nonbeliever. A good investigator must walk a line between the two as to not contaminate his or her data with bias. Every possibility must be thoroughly considered before a determination is made to the nature of the phenomena. Bias is the most common reason why theories are rejected by the scientific community.

The first organized body of researchers to band together & apply scientific techniques to the study of ghost phenomena was the Society for Psychical Research. Formed in 1882 by a group of distinguished Cambridge scholars, they immediately set about trying to formulate & prove theories on all subjects relating to the paranormal, including telekinesis & clairvoyance as well as haunting activity. Unfortunately, many of the early SPR members seemed to be too gullible, wanting desperately to believe the claims of many so-called mediums & psychics.

This led to the downfall of many researchers, with the credibility of the SPR being severely damaged as a whole, when most of the charlatans who had been declared genuine by the Society later were shown to be fraudulent. Ironically, it was one of the SPR's own founding members, Harry H. Price, who debunked so many of the supposed psychics. These included psychics who Price himself had originally declared to be genuine. It was bias that doomed his organization.

Experiencing Ghosts

Ways to experience if a ghost is near.

•        See them...as an apparition.

•        Hear them...for example making noises around the home.

•        Smell them...a specific scent that reminds one of them.

•        Receive gifts that one may know was from them.

•        Sense or feel their presence as chills or goose bumps.

•        Sense their touch or maybe a hug.

•        Experience visions or dreams of the deceased.

•        Experience electrical disturbances such as lights blinking, telephones ringing

•        for no reason, doorbells ringing, etc.

•        See impressions on furniture or bed as if someone is (or was) sitting there.

•        View photographic anomalies - orbs, ectoplasm and apparitions appearing in pictures.

•        Have missing items, such as books, jewelry, personal items.

•        See objects moving in the home.

•        Experience strange coincidences or symbols - such as thinking of the

•        deceased person and coming into contact with things or people that remind one of them.

•        Thoughts other than your own are ghost voices.

•        watch balls of light energy visibly moving in the home called "orbs."

Note about Spirit Possession

Ghosts have been found to possess people for several reasons: by accident; to assist the one whom they have possessed; to continue  experiencing physical life; physical addictions attachments to earthly possessions or loved ones; trauma – not even understanding they have died (because they are still alive), or even to menace or harm another for seemingly “the fun of it”.

Protection Note:

Protection is based upon personal beliefs.  Charms & Prayers for personal & mental protection can help against paranormal energies, if the belief is strong enough.  However; only if one is certified, allowed, & comfortable should a physical form of protection be brought to an investigation. This is a personal choice based upon the group as a whole. Personal protection can include:

Charms, Prayers, Religious artifacts, Personal beliefs & actions, as well as a physical form of protection to ward off those who may try & hamper & investigation by active means.  Again physical forms of protection should be agreed by all members of the investigating party & any other person that may have interest toward the group; such as the property owner, authoritarian, etc…

Module 4:

Demonology

4.1         Introduction

Introduction to Demonology

  • Demonology is for the most part considered, especially in such times where science rules modern man, an unconventional science or area of study. Essentially it is a legit field, which en-compasses many endeavors to explain what most consider myths. By the categorization, study, & actual witness to phenomena, which is considered diabolical, one who embarks in this field tries to understand the nature of these energies, which have intelligence, the ability to interact on this plane of existence, & the abilities to coerce man into his own downfall.
  • A Demonologist is one who has completed primary research within the field and has accepted his/her calling to devote their lives to the study of demonology and may be appointed by Church leadership to investigate demonic cases.

4.2          Angels

Nature of Angels

The word angel mean "messenger". In scripture they are referred to as Sons Of God (Job 1:6. 38:7) and as created beings. They are also considered Holy ones and "set apart: We must understand that angels do have natures and they also have free will. They can freely accepts God's grace and love and they can also reject it. Those angels that choose to accept God's grace and Love remain Angels of the Lord and those that freely reject his grace choose a different path. There are I08 references to Angels in the Old Testament and 165 references to Angels in the New Testament. They are in 34 books of the Bible and interesting enough they are mentioned in 17 Old Testament books and 17 New Testament books.

Classifications

Michael is called Archangel (Jude 9) and he is considered a great prince.  Of course there are other are other angels as well but scripture clearly demonstrates that there is a classification or hierarchy of angelic beings. We understand that there are Cherubim who are considered the highest order with indescribable power and Seraphims who are known as the “hunting ones" and they surround the throne with God proclaiming them "Holy Holy. Holy.

But just as we are aware that there are Angels who have accepted God's master plan. there are those fallen angels who have not. Those angels are what we refer to as Demons

Saint Thomas Aquinas explained that there were 3 main hierarchies. They are;

—  The Highest hierarchic – Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones

—  The Middle hierarchy – Dominations, Virtues, Powers

—  The Lowest hierarchy – Principalities, Archangels, Angels

4.3          Origins of Satan & Demons

Origins of Satan

In scripture, there are 7 Old Testament books that refer to Satan and every New Testament writer refers to Satan.  Devil means “slanderer, defamer, one who accuses falsely.”  As we read in Genesis, Genesis 3 refers to Satan as the serpent.  We also read in scripture that Satan, on many occasions, tries to challenge the faith of many.  Christ makes reference to Satan 25 times in the New Testament

Scripture refers to Satan as filled with beauty and wisdom and he was considered blameless (Ezek, 28:12).He was considered the anointed cherub, which was considered the highest honor before God but we also see the fall of Satan as described in Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14.  He became God’s enemy and is never again referred by any of the honorable titles.

We must understand that heaven and God’s grace is not forced upon any living being or creature created by God.  Satan freely choose to deny God’s grace and thereby, he rejected God’s creation and His love for His creation.  Indeed, Satan was a beautiful and powerful Angel but in the end, his greed and hatred towards the very beings that were created in the image of God caused him to have hate in his heart and Satan refused to accept us as being created in God’s image.  Free will exists, even for Angels and even for the most powerful Angels above in Heaven

Eph. 6, it is quite clear that Satan is intellectual and he is quite deceptive.  He has the ability to deceive people and he is incredibly successful at doing so.  He does have knowledge of scripture and he is able to manipulate this knowledge and he utilizes his intellect to confuse the believers (Matt. 4: 5-6)

It is also quite clear in Isaiah that he wishes to be like God and even exceed God and His power and scripture points out in Isaiah 14: 13-14.  Furthermore, we see in scripture Satan even tries to tempt Christ on several occasions but fails in the end. Satan can appear as a beautiful innocent creature or a ghastly being whose main mission is to cause havoc and pain on all those with whom he comes in contact with.

Origins of Demons

There are 4 explanations as to where Demons come from.  In the next slides you will see the arguments that some believe explain the origins of demons and I will give what I believe best explains the origins of Demons from the examples.

Are Spirits of deceased evil people?

Early Christian writers, such as Philo and Josephus and even some ancient Greeks believed in this theory.  However, theological speaking the Bible is pretty clear regarding where evil people go upon death .

Human beings and angels are not the same.  We are different in our very nature.  Human beings have souls and although both Angels and humans have spirits, we are not in the same in nature.  If a human being passes on, our very essence remains human.  We cannot change our identity (essence.)  We will always remain human and vice versa.  Angels will always remain angels

Are They Spirits of humans that existed before Adam?

There are those that try to argue that the “gap theory” that is between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 explains the origins of demons.  They argue that humanity was created and then destroyed and now they are demons spirits.  The problem with this view, from a Theological perspective, is that the bible never speaks about the creation of humanity prior to Genesis 1 and 2 and so therefore, this assumption is incorrect

Are they offspring of Angels and Women.

It is amazing that some people still argue that angels and women are having relations and the result of the relations are demons.  This theory is a “sons of God” theory and some take Gen. 6:4 to a different level of understanding.

They argue that Nephilims were demons and these demons took women to be their wives and had relationships with their wives.  However, when one translates this passage correctly, scripture is referring to marriage and not illicit sexual relationships with women and demons.  Furthermore, we have no factual information that clearly indicate that Nephilim were demons but rather, we can see through proper translation of scripture that they were considered fierce warriors and not demons.

Are They Fallen Angels?

This theory is the theory that the our organization and the Paranormal Clergy subscribe to.  We believe that Demons are fallen angels who have rejected God’s grace and love and will not accept humankind as being created in the image of God.  Matthew 12:24 clearly states that Lucifer is the ruler of all demons and that when he fell, low raking demons fell with him through their own free will.

4.4          Origins of Satan & Demons

There are many characteristics that can be attributed to demonic entities.  Please understand that books upon books have been written on this topic alone but because we are limited in the amount of time and space, I will touch upon the basics that I feel are important to know

Diseases Infliction

Although demonic entities can inflict disease, I am not implying that all diseases are cause by demonic entities.

There have been plenty of cases in which human error have caused terrible diseases and I believe demonic entities are not always the cause for human disease.  However, Luke 13:11, a woman claimed that she had a terrible sickness and this was caused by an evil spirit and also in Luke 13, the writer explain that for 18 years, she had been suffering from these attacks caused by demonic entities.

Psychic influence

One of the most dangerous things that demonic entities can do is influence the mind.  We will talk about the stages of possession later in this module but demonic entities can and will play havoc on the human mind.  Demonic entities will cause you to sin, isolate yourself from your family and friends, manipulate your emotions and even cause you to think about things that you would ordinarily never consider.

They are master manipulators in that they are able to tempt people with power and greed and present false sense of securities.  They present amazing opportunities and the price for said opportunities is making a few unethical decisions.  We have all heard the say, selling your soul to the devil.  While some may believe that this is mere fantasy, I assure you, it is very much reality.

Signs of Demonic Activity

•        The appearance of black smoke, black mist  or black fog

•        The odd behaviour of occupants that live in a demonic haunted home such as defecation or urination around the home, unusual vomiting activity by occupants, strange behaviour and abnormal cursing by occupants. Convulsions, unusual shaking, eyes out of focus

•        Objects around the home being violently thrown around or occupants being attacked by the entity.

•        Extreme anger and hatred felt by one or more of the occupants of the home. This includes fighting and other domestic disputes.

•        Domestic violence within the household

•        Explainable foul odors that appear from nowhere and the source cannot be found

•        If you hear knocking, scratching or banging on the walls and the source cannot be found - these will often come in 3's - as a mocking of the Trinity

•        Banging noises in the walls can be Poltergeist activity and this should not be confused with Demonic.

•        Strange growls heard when no animal is present.

•        Pay very close to how animals in the home react - are they frightened and alarmed at something you cannot see but hear?  objects usually have a target - you or guest

•        Religious articles are destroyed or they may completely disappear and pay attention to any Paranormal Activity that usually begins when prayers are said and appearance of  black smoke, black mist or black fog

The demonic will try to scare and grab a foothold where infestation is concerned. This stage precedes encroachment, the stage where permission was granted either willingly or unwillingly for the spirit or spirits to take hold. This stage is much like phenomena caused by human spirit. Attention grabbers & minor scare tactics will arise to establish a fuel source. That fuel is the very fear a person/group demonstrate when experiencing demonic phenomena, which they do not understand. It needs to be recognized to gain the ability to grow in intensity & needs it’s fuel composed of fear and basic human weaknesses.

Next, if the progression continues, oppression will set in. This stage is far greater than that of infestation. Now a mental barrage of temptation, terrible dreams, & fear may consume the person who is experiencing the assault of senses. Constant sleep deprivation may be used as well to break down the targeted individual or individuals. The demonic entity knows the weaknesses of those who it attacks; using these weaknesses to continue to gain muscle and potency. Also the physical phenomena will increase in both duration & intensity.

Larger, heavier objects will move, hard poundings may occur, actual biting & scratching may occur as part of the debasing physical assaults on the intended victim. Oppression may take weeks, months, or even years, & there is no guarantee if the barrage will work, so the struggle often becomes more & more intense. Therefore, by slithering about, stalking the essence of the individual, it can be very constant & intensify as resistance is applied. There is no time in the spirit world. These sinister & cunning spirits will try to execute the most intelligent plan of attack to dominate & conquer the will of that person. It is this stage where the demonic entity is setting the person up for the ultimate goal & desire: possession.

Stages of Demonic Activity

•        Infestation

•        Oppression

•        Possession

4.5          Poltergeists

They are normally human spirits aren’t violent but depending on their personality, who they are, what they want and other reasoning can be very violent and severe. In some cases the activity mimics characteristics of a demonic haunting.

A Poltergeist is a malevolent, mischievous spirit or form of energy which manifests with characteristics such as strange noises, moving or disappearing objects, & abnormal odors. The word poltergeist is a German word, literally translated, it means “Noisy Spirit.” A typical poltergeist haunting tends to include; noises, things being moved around on their own, & loud knocking. There also may be voices, smells & apparitions. These events are usually witnessed by numerous people in the home including friends & other relatives.

The Poltergeist Experience:

In poltergeist cases, reported disturbances include: strange noises & knockings, & objects moving about as if under their own power. Objects have been reported to fly about in bizarre trajectories, to crash to the floor & break, to break or shatter in place, & to disappear & reappear, sometimes in different locations. Beds are sometimes reported to shake & furniture to rearrange itself. In more rare cases, small, innocuous fires have started, water droplets or bursts have fallen from nowhere, stones have pelted homes, & vague apparition-like forms have been seen. Whatever the nature of the physical disturbances, poltergeist phenomena can inevitably be linked to an "agent."

The Poltergeist Agent:

Though the agent can usually be narrowed down to one person, in some cases the agent appears to consist of two or more people who co-create a psychological dynamic that causes one or more of the people to mentally "set off" the physical disturbances. Studies & investigations show that agents are typically experiencing repressed or unresolved emotional stress. Adolescence is commonly a stressful life period (psychologically & physically) & not surprisingly, the majority of reported poltergeist cases involve adolescent agents (the age range is from 12 or 13 to early 20s).

However, people of all age groups are potential poltergeist agents (although there has been a noticeable lack of agents under 10 or 11). Studies have also shown that people with epilepsy or epileptic-like activity in the brain are sometimes associated with poltergeist activity. This does not mean that everyone under stress or with epilepsy will be a poltergeist agent. In fact, the phenomenon is very uncommon, even though minor PK events may occur throughout someone's lifetime. In severe cases of repressed stress or epilepsy, poltergeist activity rarely occurs.

Patterns and Metaphors of Poltergeist Activity:

With the exception of rare lengthy cases, poltergeist phenomena generally last from two to six weeks (short term 1 week, long term about 18 months). Cases are nearly always reported in homes, offices or workplaces – wherever a dynamic of human interaction takes place. Poltergeist activity, with its connection to unresolved stress, appears to be a rare form of stress relief. Instead of the stress releasing itself in "normal" ways, the agent unconsciously "blows off steam" with the PK activity.

Patterns found in the disturbances are generally symbolic & can give clues as to the identity of the agent & the nature of the unresolved stress. Often objects & area focused activity occur whereby the disturbances tend to stay with certain forms of objects or in certain locations in the physical environment. The disturbances often appear as metaphors to the causes of stress. For example, sexual tension may be released through causing the bed to shake.

Anger towards a certain person may be released by the agent causing items belonging to the target person to break.

The rare outbreak of small fires may be associated with a general release of anger, whereas water is more often associated with grief (as in tears not being physically shed). More unusual cases involving guilt have resulted in the agent actually giving him/herself a psychokinetic "self-beating" displayed by the spontaneous manifestation of bruises or other marks of physical punishment.

Other very rare poltergeist cases have involved sightings of apparition-like forms. These are not thought to be true apparitions (or ghosts – a consciousness operating outside of or after the death of his or her physical body). Rather, they are thought to be unconscious projections from the mind of the agent that are "picked up" telepathically by people associated with the agent (& of course, by the agent as well). These apparitional forms are often not human in appearance (in contrast to ghosts), & may even look like an archetypal "monster." As frightening as they may appear, these mental projections are harmless & are simply a reflection of the agent's inner psychological "monsters or demons." As with the physical activity, they are often a metaphor for the mental & emotional stress the agent is experiencing.

More subtle forms of poltergeist activity involve micro-effects whereby the agent mentally, though unconsciously, affects the functioning of technology (these are effects that occur throughout our lives). It is now known that technology such as watches, computers, telephones, photocopiers, etc. are apparently susceptible to PK.

Similar to the large-scale poltergeist effects, these micro-effects appear to be a form of stress-relief or a reflection of the mood of the agent, & the type of effect is often a clue as to the nature of the stress. Agents may in fact only be a contact for an entity, being used a source of energy; feeding off the stress of the agent. This is not always the case, though more common studies are apt in proving them as such.

Levels of Activity

There are the five possible known levels of Poltergeist/Ghost activity:

Level 1. Senses Attack

  • Cold spots, hearing voices, not able to understand what they are saying, strange noises, odd odors & smells, hearing footsteps, unusual animal activity (like dogs or cats running from rooms, etc.) feelings of being watched.

Level 2. Communication

  • Presence felt.... No longer mind tricks
  • Whispers, laughs or giggles, moans or shrieking, moving shadows, breeze in closed areas, visible clouds (base apparitions) strong static, electricity, marks on the floors or walls- not writing.

Level 3. Electrical Control

  • Lights & other electrical appliances turning off & on, unseen hands grabbing or touching people, writings on the wall or pattern markings, doors open & close or lock & unlock, hearing voices or words clearly, full apparitions or dark figures, showing levels of communication with living people, strange telephone calls.

Level 4. The Trickery Stage

  • It gains knowledge of what scares you....Flying objects, moving objects, objects disappearing & reappearing elsewhere, shaking furniture or beds, fire starting, appearing as frightening entities, pushing or shoving people or shaking them, creating visions or illusions, speaking in ordering tones, people feel dizzy, nausea or sick to their stomach, windows, mirrors or other house hold objects breaking for no reason.

Level 5. The Danger Level

  • Dangerous activity, biting, slapping or punching, rape, animating objects, possession, use of house hold electrical systems to cause harm, fires & burning, blood on the walls-floor or ceilings, attack by unseen forces, held down, hair pulled, flying knives or other sharp objects, heavy objects falling, threatening writings or visual signs.
  • Poltergeist last for an unknown period of time, but after level 5 it'll lay dormant & then back to level 1 as it builds up again.

Note: Remember that poltergeist activity most likely occurs with those going through puberty or extreme emotional stress that when the person who is attached to this energy can receive help or counseling and if it works then the activity will more than likely stop. Remember also that just because there is severe poltergeist activity does NOT mean there is a demonic presence.

4.6           Demonic Infestations

What causes demonic infestations?

• The clients could have had a pre-existing haunting

• Someone could have opened themselves up by invitation (Quija board, challenging entities, provoking entities)

• Paranormal investigators can fall into this trap by provoking entities.

• Person actions, evil actions, (making a pact with the Devil and placing a curse on someone. The demonic entity will expect it's compensation - your ultimate demise

How to detect a demonic presence:

• Pay very close to your body reactions.

• Your 6"‘sense will begin to kick in and you will know something isn’t right.

• Your hair on the back of your neck stands up, you have stomach problems

• You will get a sense of dire dread

• Heavy objects move around seemingly by themselves.

• Knocking, banging or pounding may be heard throughout

• the house or in just one room - sounds in 3’s

• Religious articles disappear or are destroyed. They may also be desecrated.

• Foul odor of rotten flesh or other odours - source cannot be found

• Animals become frightened of unseen/seen entities

• Religious objects are desecrated

• Growling sounds can be heard throughout the home or room without being able to find the source

• Activity starts up when you attempt to say prayers

• Apparent retaliation if a clergyman/paranormal group has been to the home

• Physical attacks

• Psychological attacks

• Sexual assaults

• Levitation of objects or people

Remember that:

Inhuman spirits can mimic the full shape of a human spirit but there’s always a way to know that it is demonic and that is that they normally have no eyes, the face is somewhat flawed or vague. They are usually red, orange or black in color. Inhuman spirits can mimic the voice of a loved one but their voice is not perfect. Human spirits cannot mimic other types of voices but Inhuman spirits can. Human spirits can touch you and you will normally not feel threatened. Inhuman spirits touch you and it is very threatening (punch, scratch, smack).

4.7           Demonic Oppression

Demonic oppression is when the demonic problem becomes personal and interacts with the victim, sometimes taking over the person’s thoughts for a time. The goal of demonic oppression is to put strain on the victim emotionally, psychologically and physically, causing them eventually to “give up” and accept more complete control from the demons.

If a demonic infestation took the form of a helpful spirit that pretense is generally dropped when things progress to this point. The demonic have enough of a hold on the person’s life, mind and body that they can afford to let the truth be known: they want to destroy the victim usually through suicide. Oppression:

- Affects the emotions of the victim

- Affects the thoughts of the victim

- Affects the sleep of the victim.

- Causes the victim to “hear voices”

Signs of Oppression

• You see and know something is not right, voices are telling you to do things that you’re not used to doing. They will tum you against loved ones, make you feel something is around you or touching you.

• A lot of arguing with others will take place, your whole life will turn inside out.

• You can‘t sleep at night, you are not eating a lot, food is just not good to you at this time.

• No one can figure out what is going on with you, your whole personality changes.

• You have no energy to do anything at all, this is the process of wearing you down and it is oppressing you.

THESE CAN BE SIGNS OF A MEDICAL CONDITION AS WELL

4.8           Demonic Possession

more respectful material and find a proper mentor. In saying that it is rare, it does occur and its main goal at this point and objective is to gain full control of the victim. This is where you need to seek help from family, clergy or someone in this work.

During this stage a person will begin to go into Transient Possession in which they may start blacking out and not remembering certain events. Basically, they get possessed randomly without knowing. Finally, a person then will go through Full Possession in which the person themselves have no control over anything and the demon takes full control of the person.

Physical Changes of the Possessed

- The person involved may go for long periods of time without blinking their eyes. (Can indicate a neurological condition)

- The person may appear catatonic. (Can also be a sign of mental illness)

- The person speaks a language they could not possflaly know. (Or speak English with unusual accents - carefi1l MPD)

- The person will become completely rigid where they cannot be moved at all, even by multiple people.

- Look for changes in the eyes. They may turn almost black like shark eyes.

- The person may possess inhuman strength.

- Their voice may change or symbols may appear on the body in the form of welts and scratches

- They may or may not levitate.

- There may be multiple voices coming from the person at the same time.

- Take note if animals appear to be frightened of the person, especially if they begin acting fearful when there are personality changes in the person.

- Aversion to religious objects and Holy Names

- There is Scriptural precedent for physical manifestations. The Bible says, "The

evil spirit shook the nun violently and came out of him with a shriek.” It is normal for there to be physical manifestations when spirits come out with a shriek. This is exactly what happened when Phillip drove out spirits.

Mental Changes of the Possessed

- Look for changes in personality.

- Someone who is normally very active becomes isolative.

- Look for changes in attitude and behavior, usually becoming hostile.

- Someone who begins cursing a lot when that is out of character for them.

- Notice if they suddenly have an aversion to religious objects.

- Look for evidence of self-mutilation.

- Look for changes in the way the person dresses

- Look for the destructiveness on the part of the person especially if the destructiveness is toward religious objects.

- They may be become abusive or threatening for no reason.

- They may become violent

- The person may experience severe nightmares or night terrors.

- They may perform acts of humiliation, such as urinating on themselves, etc.

Deliverance Prayers

Deliverance work is praying for, or requesting, intervention from Holy sources to remove evil afflicting a person or the effect of that evil. Deliverance prayers can be said by laity or priests and they are used for situations where a person is being oppressed by evil forces, often demons.

Deliverance work is commonly done with a small group of people praying over or for an individual. The individual usually sits quietly and prays along with the people to have the negative influences removed from their life. Deliverance work is sometimes done for physical ailments. Deliverance prayers can also be said in a home where demonic infestation is taking place. If during deliverance prayer it becomes apparent that the person is possessed the process should be stopped immediately and the case should be referred to an exorcist.

Trying a deliverance prayer on a possessed person will only anger or inflame the possessing demon and make the situation worse. It will probably do no good and cause more harm than good and can be seriously dangerous.

Demons and Diseases

  • Demons can cause diseases and have advanced psychic abilities.

What are some signs of demonic activity?

  • The appearance of black smoke, black mist or black fog
  • The odd behavior of occupants that live in a demonic haunted home such as defecation or urination around the home, unusual vomiting activity by occupants, strange behavior and abnormal cursing by occupants. Convulsions, unusual shaking, eyes out of focus
  • Objects around the home being violently thrown around or occupants being attacked by the entity.
  • Extreme anger and hatred felt by one or more of the occupants of the home. This includes fighting and other domestic disputes.
  • The appearence of black-eyed children
  • The walls bleed and all of your chicken and beer dissapear.
  • Religious articles are destroyed or they may completely disappear and pay attention to any Paranormal Activity that usually begins when prayers are said and appearance of black smoke, black mist or black fog

Module 5:

Evidence Review

Introduction

Paranormal investigators on television shows such as “Ghost Hunters” and “Ghost Adventures” make searching for clues to the unknown seem simple and, at times, glamorous.

However, what you don’t see in the hour-long, weekly programs is the time involved in this sort of research. During a paranormal investigation, team members conduct experiments, talk out loud to seemingly no one and use electronic equipment in an effort to capture evidence of ghostly activity. These investigations can last from a few hours to, sometimes, 12 hours of overnight observation. During the television shows, viewers see small portions of these investigations and even smaller segments of evidence review.

Once the investigation is complete it is time to review your findings. This is one of the most effective ways of weeding out serious paranormal investigators as it is very tedious. Some people just want to “ghost hunt” and could care less about what they get because they just want the thrills. It is true that this phase can be very boring or it could be even more exciting than the investigation it just depends on the person and situation.

For example, you investigate for 8 hours and during the investigation you have no activity but while reviewing the evidence you get some amazing class A EVP and a door shutting or you could even have everything happen during the investigation but collect no evidence. It Is this mystery of “what will we get?” that keeps investigators morale up.

When reviewing your audio/photos/video look for shadows with no source, or faint outlines of figures. Also, look for blurry images, faces or hands in midair, or images in windows or doorways. You can also look for white lights, streaks, or anything that just doesn't look like it belongs! You can use photo/video editing software to enhance anything that looks suspicious. There are also several groups you can e-mail a photo or video to, & they will in turn give you their opinions on what you think you may have captured on either type of film!

When people investigate paranormal phenomena, often they stop as soon as they come up with evidence that appears to support a natural explanation. This may seem a sensible thing to do but, scientifically, it is wrong!

The explanation that the investigator has found might be right but it could be wrong! There could be other possibilities, that our investigator hasn't yet looked at, which are a better fit to the evidence. The crucial point is that science is not concerned with any old explanation but only the correct one. If an explanation is to be scientifically useful, it should be exhaustively tested against the evidence. You should strive not just for an explanation but the right one.

Imagine you are walking along a street when a young man in front of you stops, leans down & casually picks up an object from the ground. Having caught your attention you stare at the object he is holding & recognize it as a wallet. The young man casually pockets the wallet & walks off.

What do you do?

Obviously this depends on what you think you just witnessed. Did the youth find the wallet on the street? If so, is he going to hand it in or keep it? Is it his own wallet, which he had just dropped?

Unfortunately, you don't know & any action you take will rely on assumptions rather than evidence. The crucial evidence that you don't have is, what happened before the youth picked up the wallet? You didn't see what happened because you hadn't noticed the youth until that moment. Evidence is crucial in science but it must be good evidence. To determine if evidence is good, we need to test it.

So if someone reports seeing a ghost, do you just simply conclude that they saw one & that ghosts must exist? No, because there are many possible alternative reasons why someone might 'see a ghost'. You need to test their observation by considering those alternatives & testing the evidence against them. You could, for instance, question the witness in detail to gain extra information & examine the site where they made their observation for clues. You could set up a vigil to see if you could see the ghost for yourself.

If you come up with a theory that explains the observation, you then need to demonstrate that it is the correct one. This means gathering more evidence - evidence that can differentiate between your theory & other possibilities. In paranormal research, as in science, evidence is everything.

Science is the study of nature. It is the study of things as they are, not what we imagine they are, not what we'd like them to be & not just part of a good story! Evidence makes & breaks scientific theories. That's because theories are just our attempts to explain what we observe. Evidence is always the final arbiter of what is correct & what isn't.

Science is, of course, a human activity. Scientists try to be logical, impartial & critical but it isn't easy. It's not the way humans behave most of the time. Luckily, it turns out that being a little illogical, partial & uncritical can be a good thing in science. It gives scientists imagination & insight that can produce theoretical breakthroughs that might never occur to a coldly dispassionate machine.

In the end, though, any new theory, however it appears, must be tested against the evidence. This is the final court of appeal in science. Nature doesn't care about science (indeed it doesn't 'care' at all). Science has a cruel taskmaster indeed in nature.

Luckily, nature, more than compensates for this cold indifference but providing us with extraordinary & beautiful wonders. Who hasn't marveled at the beauty of a mountain, a flower or a nebula. And who could have guessed at the weird counter-intuitive ways that particles behave at the quantum level of existence.

Facts about evidence review:

  • Aside from investigation it is the most important part of the process.
  • It can be boring and frustrating.
  • Things aren’t always as they appear to be.
  • Nit picking and attention to details is a must.
  • Audio analysis takes a lot of practice and even then something can be overlooked.
  • EVP are sometimes hard to hear and require enhancement while others are clearly audible.
  • The spirit box is an vital tool to investigators however never take a client evidence from them UNLESS they are compelling and are relevant to the situations and questioning.

False Positives

EVP Practices

Some people catch on quickly while others it can take multiple cases to review evidence to get to where they need to be on reviewing evidence. You have to almost be a natural at it. Reviewing evidence takes a patient, detail oriented, and focused person due to the amount of evidence to review and the nature of the beast so to speak. Some EVP are very hard to hear and require amplification while others are fine as is but be warned that the more you “clean up” an EVP the less credible it becomes. Also, remember that as with photo matrixing there is audio matrixing as well especially if “tagging” doesn’t happen on investigations, Remember, if at first you miss things or forget how to do it then don’t be sad because the more you do it then the better you will become.

When reviewing the audio of your investigation, be sure to place yourself in an area with little distraction. We recommend using a pair of good over-the-ear cup style headphones when reviewing for EVP's, as they are generally faint & the use of headphones will help you to better hear the ghost voices. A recorder with a counter is invaluable when reviewing for voices. Make notes of the counter's reading whenever you hear possible EVP's so that they can be easily found for future analysis. You will be listening for sudden changes in the background noise, whispers, & just anything that you think doesn't sound like natural background noise.

If you capture a voice on audio, you may have difficulty in determining what the voice is saying. There are several audio programs you can purchase or download for your computer. These will aid you in filtering & editing the sounds on the tape to make any voices for distinguishable. Also remember that you will be listening to the voices of people who may have passed away long ago, so when you find an EVP, be sure to listen for words that may no longer be common usage. Also, the voices you record may be in another language. Not all people speak English, so not all ghosts will speak it either! Many EVP's will be so inaudible that the exact words being said are indeterminable. This is just a part of the investigation process, but look on the plus side, you have an EVP.

Types of Recordings:

  • Hand-Held Recordings (HR): These recordings are captured while on the investigation when the investigator is holding or directly using a voice recorder.
  • Static Audio Recordings (SA): These recordings are captured while being placed in strategic locations throughout the location being investigated. These recorders are not mobile and are placed in specific places without being moved during the entirety of the investigation.

EVP Review Process

Preparation

1. Whenever possible, review your audio as soon as possible. This is why we have deadlines. Memories fade quickly, so listen to your audio while it's still fresh in your mind where you were at a given moment, who was with you, and what was said.

2. Be familiar with the process that you are learning here.

3. Try to adopt the mindset that I'm may not find any EVP at all when reviewing the audio. Remember that just because you've run audio looking for EVP, doesn't mean you're going to find any. It doesn't matter what activity you may have experienced, what kind of creepy feelings you had, or how crazy-haunted the place is said to be, there's a good chance that reviewing the audio will be a waste of time. So try to be rational and realistic, and don't get desperate and create your own EVP. Faking evidence will destroy your credibility and terminate membership.

4. Remember to never alter your original recordings. You want to keep them as they were originally recorded. Before you review your audio, make backup copies of your original recordings just in case you accidentally save any changes to it (bumping up the volume is a common culprit here)

5. Make sure you set aside a quiet time and place to review your evidence and try to review it all in one day. If this is not possible then make sure you make not of where you left off and do not stop mid file, be sure the file at least has been reviewed completely.

6. Be sure you use high quality headphones when reviewing evidence, speakers do not work effectively and you could possible miss some good EVP.

EVP Review Steps:

Step 1: Setup

Note: The software is for WINDOWS computers, for MAC please click here.

  • Create a folder somewhere on your computer with an easy to remember label such as “PRISM Evidence”. This can be used for all of your evidence.
  • Inside of that folder create one with the case number you are working on so that you can keep it organized.
  • Click Here to download and install the free audio editing software Audacity. You only have to install this one time.
  • Click Here to download and install the free plugin for audio formats. You only have to install this one time.
  • After you install this software then prepare to record your findings on the evidence review forms located in the file cabinet.
  • Once you complete recording your findings in the forms then transform the data to the online forms located in the PRISM Office. Be sure to follow the directions listed on the form.

Step 2: Learn the software

Note: The software is for WINDOWS computers, for MAC please click here.

Here are some tutorials for the software. You may not need to know all of this for EVP review but it never hurts to learn anyway. Do NOT use NOISE REMOVAL unless otherwise told to do so. This effect usually does more harm than good.

<iframe width="425" height="350" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/av3pGS3C0uU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Step 3: Review the Audio

After you learn the software then you may continue to the next step. If you are having problems with the software then there are other methods.

Make sure you have the appropriate form opened. If you wish to print it off then you may but you will need to transfer It back to the online form to submit. This is available on the cloud.

  • As you listen to the audio you will want to fill out the form as you hear something unusual. Listening for EVP is difficult and time consuming but once you get something then it’s worth it.
  • EVP can the form of noises, voices or anything unusual however use your best judgment and remember not to take things out of context. You may hear background noise, dogs barking, fans running..etc but be sure to not mistaken these events or random creaks or whatever for EVP unless it is IN CONTEXT.
  • For example, in demonic cases you will want to make note of repetitious knockings, scratching or what have you in 3’s. Also, be sure to make notes of response knocks or bangs after a question is asked for the entity to do so.
  • Sometimes spirits may speak under someone’s voice so if you are unsure of an EVP make note of it and put a question mark next to it.
  • If you miss something highlight the place where you think you heard something and loop it back and forth to get understanding.
  • Remember that we make mistakes and forget to tag things so listen closely.
  • In the form be sure to write down the times you heard the event and the description of it. For example: If you hear a voice at 3:12:30 and it lasts until 3:20:23 then make note of that. Remember to include any relevant questions before an evp is heard so we know if it was in response to a question. If a question was asked then make note of it.
  • Save the file when completed so you may submit it.

Photos and Videos

The review process for DVR and Photographs are reliant on the same principles of EVP review.

  • No special software needed just open, watch and fill out the form and submit it in the online form.
  • Beware of matrixing.
  • Take orbs with a grain of salt.

What is the reason for the "lights out" theory?

  • Because it's spooky
  • Your team mates are ugly
  • Because most parainvestigators have day jobs they have to work, and are only available during the evening and overnight hours, and it's just polite to keep the lights off at private residences at night when people are trying to sleep Selected
  • Being in the dark helps highten other senses, makes it easier to see and capture images and apparitions on film, and it highly reduces the natural EMF level within the house and helps limit natural interfferrence by cutting as

What is matrixing and why is it important for parainvestigators to have a logical understanding of it?

  • umm...what? lol
  • Matrixing is when one thing is interpreted as something else.
  • Matrixing is the combination of many things to create a new thing, and it is important to understand because it could be a sign of logical explanations that are making a new paranormal experience.
  • Matrixing is a naturally occuring mindgame or trickery that happens when the analitical and logical side of the brain tries to make sense of something it does not understand, trying to form it into a pattern it recognizes. It is important to understand matrixing because it is a common everyday occurance that may explain certain things reported in a location IE- a combination of smells forming one, different smell, optical llusions, and hearing "voices" or music out of whitenoise
  • The Matrix is a good movie..lol

What is the significance of an EMF detector?

  • EMF detectors can help locate things that may cause interrference to help logically explain or reproduce certain experiences, thus debunking them, and also it is theorized that high or sporadic EMFs with no other outside interferrence or cause could be sign of activity because having no physical form, their energy force would be all they had to play off of.
  • Because TAPS told me it was..
  • EMFs help to locate strong activity levels and hauntings within a location
  • EMF is a gansta paranormal rap band.. has nothing to do with ghosts.

True or False

  • You should never wear any type of perfume, cologne, and try to use uncented deoderants, soaps and laundry detergent when you know you are going on an investigatio
