A project manager is a person who has the overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, design, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a project. The project manager leads the project team which consists of various stakeholders and ensures that there is minimal risk. As the project manager, their job is also to ensure that a they stay on budget, stick to the estimated time period quoted and to ensure that there is clear communication between all involved in the project as well as document all aspects of the specific project they are working on. Planning is an essential duty of a project manager. Determining what needs to be done, who is going to do it, and when it needs to be done are all part of the planning process. Planning is an on going process that takes place throughout the life of the project. Project managers may work closely with upper management and various stake holders to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as rely on other departments for support. Traditional project managers usually take on a great deal of responsibility. Essentially, the project manager is accountable for the success or failure of a project.
