Basic Project Planning Phases

Basic Project Planning Phases

The Basic Project Planning phases – projects are unique events that are infused with changes which occur from time to time. It is therefore important that the planning of projects is gingerly and meticulously arranged in advance.

The Project Management Institute PMI - defines project management planning as “ the application of knowledge, tools, skills and techniques to a broad range of activities in order to advance requirements of a specific project “ .

Creating a project quality plan demands the need to identify what are the quality underlying needs of the project. Set standards must follow precisely this principle.

Providing direction and control of a project planning from alpha to omega is a process that has some five elementary phases. These are:

  • Project initiation and commencement – during this phase the working group makes a decision if the project will make business sense. They do so by using a unique tools to scrutinise the entire project. A clear business case must be established.
  • Project Planning and Scoping - a project team prioritises the project evaluate the budget and schedule. This is also determines what resources are needed. This is completed by recording every moment in writing.
  • Project Implementation - part of the pivotal project planning phase is the allocation of vital resources to the project if it will succeed the implementation. A poorly conceived plan is almost with fails worst executed. It is therefore key that all stops are pulled and asked questions.
  • Project Deliverables and Monitoring  - projects standing and progress towards planned actuals against a certain target
  • Termination of Project - every project once it has reached closure standard or unique requirements and client has confirmed shared satisfaction it is critically important to have a maintenance plan for the project in order to continuously measure and monitor not only continuous but continual improvement as well.
